Adoption

Family and Ellekae

I know Ellekae has been having issues with her MIL.  Mine wasn't so bad, but certainly not very supportive.  This weekend we went to see them and I saw a complete 180.  Now that we have identified a BM and we know approximately when our little bundle of joy is arriving, she has been very supportive.  She has even offered to fly to IL with us while we need to be there for the two weeks while we await our court date.  Although DH and I have thought about logistics etc. she has offered to keep looking for a good place for us to stay.  I was quite impressed from the last conversation we had had with her about his back in April/May when we were just starting the process.  Hoping Ellekae MIL does a 180 as well once they have identified their LO.

Re: Family and Ellekae

  • That is great she is coming around. I wish everyone had supportive families. I won the MIL lottery. She has always been so supportive in anything.

Heading to China in November 2014 to bring our son home!

  • We too had some challenges with my MIL not being too excited with what we were doing.  We are open to race, and this caused some concern in the family. We decided its our decision in the end and they can choose to be supportive or not.  She's starting to come around slowly, but I think it takes some time for them to let go of the plans they had in mind for future grandchildren and get used to this new path.  Hoping all of our MILs embrace these babies and support us!

  • I'm so glad that your MIL is being supportive!!  I have a lot of fears about DH's family, especially about the strong possibility of transracial adoption.  We are very okay and comfortable with our decisions but it makes me sad to anticipate a negative reaction.  Hopefully they will surprise us, I hope we all end up with strong support systems!!
