My DH and I signed up for the warrior dash in sept. Has anyone ran this and have any advice on training for it? Ive been alternating running, a core workout and push ups for about 6 weeks now. I try to get a workout in 4 days a week. Doesnt always happen depending on DS. I dont feel like im going to be ready. Is it hard to get thru if you havent been training very long???
Re: Warrior Dash
The warrior dash is a fun run not necessarily a competitive run. I did one last year and loved it. I would have done it this year as well, but I was nearly 6 mos pregnant when it was in my area.
My race: Single track through the woods for about 1 mile in nearly 6 inches of mud (for about a quarter mile broken up throughout), then a few mud obstacles (crawling through it, climbing over 3-4 foot walls in it, etc) up and down a rope ladder, through tires, down a giant water slide, up a huge hill, & over fire. There were some others thrown in, but they weren't challenging. Definitely something anyone can do.
Bring a towel and a change of clothes or you will be driving home in wet, muddy clothes. Have fun!

This. I have not done this race but have a bunch of friends who did. They all can easily run at least 4 miles. Since its a 3 mile course (if I remember correctly), I would think its a good idea to be able to jog at least that far. I almost signed up, but I don't like getting dirty
It's really set up for many ability levels. I'd say as long as you are moderately in shape, you'll be fine. Have fun!
Lol. Ok Im not much of a runner. I do 2 mile runs on the treadmill and it takes me 25 min and its not easy for me. I mostly hear its fun but ive heard its hard from someone who runs half marathons and is a workout freak but she is competitive. So idk

I can't do 3 miles consistently and I did the Warrior Dash in May. As long as you can make it that distance running or walking, you'll be fine. Try to do some upper body lifting as well. Nothing heavy or crazy, but your upper body will definitely get a bit of a workout.
The two things that made me sore during the run were: 1- during the running through the mud at the beginning, there was a very deep section (like knee-deep). My shoes were sliding off a bit, so I had to be careful lifting them up, and my shins definitely felt it the day after. So tie your shoes TIGHT. And maybe do some knee raises with ankle weights, lol. 2- on our course there was a water slide, which was basically a tarp over a rocky hill. I ended up with huge bruises on my hips from sliding down it.
Bring TONS of water. They have guys with hoses after your finish, but the only people who got hosed down at our event were the girls who took their tops off.

I was supposed to do one last summer with my husband, but found out we were expecting, didn't have time to get the doctor's okay. I'm signed up for one in September too (Mn).
From what my husband told me about the run, I'd practice running hills. You can look at what obstacles are going to be on your route on their website and plan your workouts to go along with those.
