Update on my Miso induction...

Well I posted earlier today that I was being induced tonight with Misoprostol (Cytotec). This is after a week of prodromal labor (contractions). I'm 40w6d. I'm 3cm & 50% effaced. I didn't know this, but as it turns out, Misprostol cannot be administered to someone who is already contracting and I'm contracting a lot so they couldn't give me the Miso and sent me home. It can cause overstimulation of the uterus. And in the hour that I sat in triage, I was way more effaced than when I got there so it turns out I don't even need the Miso. They want me to come back in the morning and I asked if the doc could just break my water and see if that starts labor without doing pitocin. She said it shouldn't be a problem at all, especially with the particular doc on call tomorrow. So, this is actually better because with my 2nd baby, all they did was break my water, and labor began full force and I had a natural birth (no epidural). She even seemed to think I might go into labor overnight tonight. So.... no Miso for me but I'm fine with that. =)

  • Good luck!  I am on the road to Miso myself.  I have gestational diabetes and my dcotor prefers that I dont go all the way to my due date of the 29th...so we will probably induce on or around the 24th if I have not gone into labor by then.  Good to read your post as it gave me some new info.
