are the disposable ones good, or is it preferable to get the ones that can be washed and reused? i know it varies based on the body of each woman, but how many should i stock up on?

FTM here but I'm going to pick up some of both. I'll use the disposables in the beginning until I figure out how many I'm going through, then I figure the washable ones will save me money in the long run.
I much prefer the resuable ones. So much softer and less likely to irriate. Plus, they aren't as noticable under clothes. I just buy the brand at Target and have never had problems.
In the beginning, I would get 1 box of disposibles. Until your milk regulates, you make leak more, so the disposables are better for the 1st 1-2 weeks. Any brand.

This. Disposables at first because you leak more, I liked the Johnson & Johnson brand. I went through one or two boxes of 60 ct. and then switched over to the cloth. Actually sometimes I backed up a disposable with a cloth, when I was REALLY leaking.

This is totally up to your boobs and the reusable ones. The ones I bought were CRAZY noticeable under my clothes. Embarrassingly so. It looked like I had small saucers in my bra I ended up only using them around the house.
I used disposables originally, then switched to cotton washables (they were all pretty much the same. I bought the cheaper ones at bru. They have lace on one side. Nuk brand, maybe? Avent? Not really sure.
The washable ones soaked up more, we're more comfy, better for the environment, and cheaper (considering I used them for the first six months and will reuse them again).
I mentioned in yesterday's post that Lansinoh were my favorite brands of disposables b/c they stuck in my bra the best & were the least noticeable under clothes. I like Medela second best & Nuk the least. Nuk has no adhesive at all, so they shifted & fell out when I'd flip my bra down to nurse. The only plus to Nuk was that they're not individually wrapped, so you don't have to futz with peeling the wrappers. Those are the 3 brands I tried. hth.
Re: s/o nursing pads
TB was NUTS yesterday, so i must have missed that one in the rush of all the drama!
