Convertible car seat help!

We have a safty first convertible car seat and use it rear facing. We recently got a new vehicle so I have to switch it over, and I'm having a heck of a time with it. It has the 2 clips that hook it in, or it can hook in with the seat belt. I've noticed that when I have it installed it is still movable forward( would send seat towards the rear of car if we were rear ended) I cannot seem to fix this, and can find no literature/videos on it. Does anyone know if they all do this, and are okay too?

Re: Convertible car seat help!

  • We don't have a safety first seat, but I would take it to a fire station tomorrow AM to see if they have any advice. We had to do that with our infant seat and they were very nice and helpful. GL!

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.

  • Are you kneeling in it as you tighten either the latch strap or the seat belt it's secured with?  That makes a huge difference.

I had DH push on it and it did help. Thanks! I also used the anchor, that is to be used for forward facing, to hook it under the seat frame. That thing barely moves an inch now.

Does it say you can tether for RFing?  If not, it's actually unsafe to do it.  It's ok for the car seat to have a little give .5in side to side.

Unless the manual specifically says you can tether RF then don't. It's ok for the seat to be able to move towards the front of the actual seat in the car. You don't want the base of the carseat moving more than .5 inch.

  • Yes. Please don't tether it in RFing. I was confused about how the carseat could just flap up toward the seat as well but I looked into it and it's supposed to be like that. It allows extra give or cushion if there is an impact.
