I can't decide on a dry pail/wet bag situation for storing dirty diapers at home. We have a diaper champ from previously using disposables with our first son, and had planned on just using a pillow case on the inside, but was told a normal trash can that lets air in is best... why? Also I was told a pillow case will get gross and that I need a wet bag that I can throw in the wash... can't I just wipe out the diaper champ if need be?
Educate me on why air needs to get to the diapers or what is best? I want to succeed at CDing without a stinky baby's room or diaper issues. Help!

Re: Do I need an open dry pail for diapers?
Air needs to get to the diapers for the same reason that sweaty gym clothes will stink more after 2 days if left zipped up in a duffel bag as opposed to just left on the floor.
A pail liner will prevent the wetness and odors from transferring to your pail. Plastics retain odors, so without a proper liner your pail could just end up stinking, especially if you live in an area where it gets hot in the summer. There was someone on this board a week or so ago with this problem.
I use a hanging wetbag as opposed to a pail because I don't have the floor space. Sometimes I leave it unzipped, sometimes I don't. Odors haven't been an issue so far, but I make sure I wash every other day.

We use the same method at home. Even with toddler pee and poop we never have smell issues with an unzipped wetbag.

We spray off our dirty diapers and toss them in a wet bag. We keep the bag closed. No stink. No mold. I wash diapers every day though; not sure if we would have a problem if we went longer between washes.
