So, we've been watching waaaaay too much TV this summer. The average temp here has been 114* for the past four weeks, so we aren't stepping outside for anything. I have morning sickness and feel awful, so we basically sit on the couch all day. I feel like a terrible parent and I'm sure my kid will be thrilled to start daycare again next week where he has activities and friends!
Anyhow, do your kids laugh at things on TV? Lately, Nate has been noticing the things on TV and cracking up at the parts he thinks are funny. I think he may be able to actually follow the plot of the show now! Curious George is a favorite that he thinks is hilarious! It's weird to watch their little personalities develop and see what they think is funny. I wonder if he'll have an odd sense of humor like his parents... ![]()
Re: TV and LO
Yes, he does laugh at stuff. I'm not sure he's following the plot like your DS, but he does laugh at random things.
MH DVRed some old school Tom & Jerry episodes & that was the first thing I heard him laugh at. We also have a DVD that came with his Little People Zoo playset & there's a part where a monkey & an elephant are dancing together & it just cracks him up for whatever reason!
We have been doing the same thing. It's too hot to go outside and I've been so exhausted I have no energy to do anything.
He LOVES watching TV. If the TV isn't on he will either get the remote and bring it to me and say "mote!" and point at the TV or if he can't reach it he will point to it and say "mote, mote, mote". His favorite show is Chuggington and he laughs and says "bonk" when one of the characters says "oh bumpers!" and with Little Einsteins he loves to pat his lap and say blast off.
We've had too much tv lately also. It's tough nursing b/c I have to sit still w/ her for 20min every 2 hours so at least two of those per day are spent watching tv, plus I'll turn it on while I'm cooking or dinner would never get done. And we usually don't do tv after dinner but lately we've had the Olympics on in the evening. I'm not going to beat myself up too much b/c I know it's a short term issue that'll soon be over.
Anyway, he doesn't laugh so much as go wow and woah at things.
Yeah, we got way into Sesame Street and Super Why when I was going through first tri morning sickness and now we put the tv on in the morning while he wakes up and in this time between 5 and 6 before my husband comes home (he gets cranky at this time). So right now he's watching Super Why and I get to be on the bump!
He does laugh when some things are ridiculous, but mostly he just looks at it very seriously. He smiles when songs are on!
I wouldn't feel too bad about it. I'm pretty sure Super Why is responsible for A learning 5 letters...I never taught him letters because I thought it was beyond him. Apparently not! T.V. is better now than it was when we were kids. I think there are some really valuable kids shows now.
Well, I know my kiddo watch far to much TV. Hubby puts it on in the morning (Hubby has to watch a screen every waking moment he is home - either the computer or the TV) on Disney Channel, and then I shut it of when I put J down for his midday nap, and it magically comes on sometime after he wakes up)he can turn it on himself) (but then it is normally time to go out for shopping and other things). In the afternoon when it is time for dinner my Hubby want to watch TV while eating dinner (he does not like to talk during dinner or sit at the kitchen table) so instead of us just sitting there by ourself (like we do everyday he is working) we join him on the couch.
Well, "at least" we will be moving to my MIL in 2 weeks, and she feel the same way I do: Meals are eaten at a table - and only on rare occations do we eat on the couch (like if people are sick or we order pizza to a movie or a game)
We are watching a lot of tv this summer too.... But it is kid friendly shows so for me that's ok. I feel bad since it is so hot outside and I am getting huger by the day and it's hard to be going going all day long.
Now that I'm on my own, I have no choice! I set up a dvd player in my room, so he watches Word World (obsessed!) while I shower and get ready for the day, and he usually watches a little bit right before bed while he drinks his sippy and winds down for the day. Sometimes in the afternoon I'll put it on as well while I clean up, do dishes, laundry, etc.
I've been really impressed with Word World - he interacts with the show, repeats the things they want the kids to repeat, and the other day even started sounding out a word! WOW!
He does watch silly things sometimes, though. Um... we just discovered Yo Gabba Gabba. WTH?
