Baby Names

Nickname-I'll take some input!

Our little Guy is gonna be Jeremiah Onesimo H. Jr

Jeremiah after his Daddy, Onesimo (O-NESS-E-MO) after SO's late grandfather.

My family & I call SO Jeremiah, his family calls him Jere. SO wants to call LO Junior, but I really don't. He doesn't like J.J. or J.R.  So, here's what I got

Little J, Miah (my nephews used to call SO this when they couldn't say his full name), Onne (O-NAY) Which is a Nickname for Onesimo, & that's all I got. LOL I don't want him to have names going every which way but I just don't know. Maybe it will just come to me when he's here? Tell me what you think. TIA

  • I know it's not exactly the same, but I know a Jeremy who goes by Remy.

  • I like Miah, it's a less common nickname for Jeremiah.
  • I like Miah.  That's what the now adult Jeremiah I know still goes by.  DH is a second so I say to steer clear of Little J.  Little J is going to grow up and not be so little, he may even be bigger than Senior.  Onne is just going to be mispronounced.  Most people I know would ask him to repeat it a few times, blink and then just decide to call him Jeremiah anyway.

A different idea:  SO goes by a new nickname.  DH's grandfather was William and went by Bill.  Once he had kids his friends started calling him Daddy Bill (guess he was the first out of them) and it stuck, that's what everyone, including his own kids and other relatives started calling him.  It's not common, but it might be an idea.

  • I read a book once where they called Jeremiah, Jemmy. Also, you could just call him Jay.

  • I would stick with Jay, Jere or Jerry.

Miah seems like it would be confused with the female name Maya.  I agree with pp that "Little J" will outgrow that name quickly.

This. Miah isn't awful, but it is kind of feminine.

  • I know several kids who are Jrs. And go by first initial then J.  J.J. would be my recommendation. I actually had a student named Daniel ______ Jr. In school, we called him Daniel, but his mom and friends referred to him as D.J.

  • I went to school with a Jeremiah that went by Miah.  What about Jo, since his initials are JO?

I agree with this. My cousin is a junior and even though he's almost 30 years old now people in the family still call him "little Mike" and his dad "big Mike". It's kind of silly since they're basically the same size now, but it just has stuck!

  • JJ, Joe (b/c of initials JO), Jem (Scout's brother in To Kill a Mockingbird was named Jeremy)
  • I like pp's suggestion of Remy quite a bit.  I also like Jem, although it sounds kind of feminine (totally outrageous!).  I think Miah is too feminine.

  • My bil is Jeremy, but we call him J all the time. How about J or Jay?

  • Thanks all for the Input! JO/JOE or JJ will not fly with SO (personal reasons). I'll revisit Jay with him. I agree w/ "Little J" will be a big J one day lol This is the 1st boy on his side out of all the cousins so its a huge deal to him what he's called. I may just roll with it for now & see how it "feels" once he's here.

    Thanks Again!

  • I noticed someone posted Remy, and I like it the best for a NN for Jeremiah. I knew a guy who went by Remy for Jeremy, but it would also work for Jeremiah.
