Adalyn has been doing really well! We've now been off O2 for about 2 weeks (yay!) and sats have been great when we spot-check it. She is up to 11 pounds and is 22 inches long! Long way from 1 pound 12 ounces and 12 inches!
We got the ok to go ahead and start fruits since we've pretty much gone through all the veggies. We're still doing the Stage 1 foods since she is still a supported sitter, and we're only going to do fruits in the morning with her oatmeal for now. We're going to use the Neosure once a day and the rest my breastmilk, since there is still so much left and I really want to get through it before it goes bad. Thank god for deep freezes!
She also got her shots today (3 of them) and then had to get bloodwork done. They checked her Vitamin D, hemoglobin, and other labs to check on her osteopenia and anemia. They actually had to poke her twice since the first arm didn't get them enough blood. She took it like a champ. Let's hope those numbers are great and we can check off some of her diagnoses that she left the NICU with.
Last week she was discharged from the ROP clinic (yay!) since she doesn't have any active disease. They suggested that we follow up with a pediatric opthamologist in about 3 months, but he doesn't think there will be any problems.
She's been pretty chill today, with the difference being that she wanted lots and lots of snuggles, which I was only too happy to give. I wore her a lot today and she napped a lot. She did start to feel warm this evening, so I checked her temperature and sure enough, she was at about 99.4. I gave her a dose of children's tylenol (which she LOVED) and she's doing fine now.
We watched the US Women's soccer team play in the semifinals against Canada and Adalyn cheered them on in her little soccer ball onesie. Here's my beautiful miracle!
Re: XP: 6 Month Appt!!!! Adalyn Update PIP
yay!! Glad to hear!!!
also... where did you get her onesie?!?!? I love it!!!
I can't believe it's already been 6 mths. She's doing so well! And she's oh so cute!
WOW! So hard to believe she is 6 mths old. She looks so healthy and cute. You must just stare at her everyday in awe at what she went through and how far she has come! I know I am in awe when I read your updates and see your pictures.
Congrats!
Like I say every time...Hooray for Adalyn!! I can't believe she's 6 months old already!
I am so happy for you and your family...Adalyn is such a champ!
Owen and I enjoyed the Women's soccer semifinals also! What an intense game!! My heart was clenching every minute of overtime!
I am curious about you serving solid foods. I was contemplating the other day whether preemies had to stay on breast milk only for longer since they were born so early, or whether they followed the normal schedule and started around 6 months or so. Obviously you have started, so what did your pediatrician say? Do you treat preemie's like their actual age or their gestational age in other areas? So confusing to me.

So, for example with regards to solids, since Adalyn was showing an interest in food (avidly watching us when we ate), could sit supported in the high chair, and was always hungry, her pedi said at her 4 month appt that we can try her on cereal. At first it was an utter disaster with maybe a couple of spoonfuls that she actually swallowed and didn't automatically spit out. We tried again about a week later and she started catching on. We saw the pedi again at 5 months (weight check) and she said that if she's doing well with that (which she was) that we can try veggies if she tolerates them. So, we did, and she did well. Once we started veggies she started not liking cereal so I tried oatmeal, which she also did not like. At her 6 month I asked if we could add fruits to her oatmeal and she said that we could since we had gotten through most (if not all) the veggies. She definitely likes the oatmeal more with apples in it than just plain. Keep in mind that she still gets most of her calories from breastmilk, and the solids is just something that we do once or twice a day. She isn't grabbing objects yet, sitting unsupported, or transferring object from one hand to another (which I think she should be at 6 months if she was full term), so she can't feed herself.
For preemies, they pretty much are on their own timetable. They're not in any book. For me, I look more at the sequence of events vs. how old she should be. So, first she needs to hold her head up completely on her arms, then roll over, then crawl, then stand, then crawl, etc.
As far as immunizations, however, you follow their actual age. Let me tell you, it is terribly confusing! I'm glad that we have the EI person come once a week and she tells us that Adalyn is doing really well in certain things and things that we need to work on. The preemie board on here is also really helpful.

ITA -- Thank you so much for sharing with us. You and Adalyn are just amazing. She is a beautiful baby girl! I would love to see more pics of her if you're willing!
I came to the board looking for an Adalyn update and I am so glad to see she is doing so well. Since Julia has been born, I haven't had nearly enough time to come and check the board and I am so glad I did, today! Can't believe she has gotten so big!
