Hi Everyone,
Its time again for our weekly check-in. This check-in is for anyone dealing with clotting disorders, or for anyone doing once or twice daily shots of Lovenox, Heparin, Clexane, Fragmin, Arixtra, etc. (you are also welcome if you are on any other blood thinners - coumadin, aspirin, etc.) This is a place for us to share our frustrations, worries and triumphs. What?s new this week? How is everyone feeling? How are your bruises? Here is a link to our injection tips, https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/63478735.aspx

Re: **Weekly Lovenox Ladies Check-in**
Checking in! Sorry I've been MIA... but it's been a scary week. Came up on a loss date and I'm just happy to be past it now. I found out at the end of July that I've got 4 rapidly growing cysts to worry about. They were there during the first u/s, but Dr thought they'd go away on their own. Unfortunately, the Lovenox is making them bleed into themselves. I've got a surgical consult on September 4th. I'm scared to death.
Injections started getting iffy in my stomach, so I moved them to my hips & they're working much better. Much less bruising. The other thing I figured was that with my growing belly (I've got some cysts in there, so even though I'm in my first tri, I look like I'm near the end of my second), it's easier for me to lay on my side & do the injection. Go figure, right?
QOTW: I actually had a triple and I didn't know. That's the crazy thing. I had recently had surgery and didn't realize that I was supposed to be doing breathing exercises. I knew I wasn't supposed to stay in bed, so I had DH get me a walker & I had started going to school again. The morning of my PEs (my clots were all in my lungs) I was short of breath, but I chalked that up to other things. I was so doped up on Vicodin because of the surgery that I couldn't feel the crushing pain until way too late. After school, I'd made it home & DH went out to pick up some meds for me. When he came home, I was barely breathing. He's the one who made the call. He got me in the car, called my surgeon & got me to the E.R. When I arrived, I was at 10% oxygen. It was only after they got me in there & started drawing blood that I felt the pain. It felt like a quilting vice was being tightened around the top of my right shoulder. I had always heard to look for symptoms on the left - but pulmonary (lung) pain can show up anywhere in your chest. To this day, when the scar tissue hurts, it's in the back of my right lung. My recommendation is this: If you can't identify why it hurts and you know it isn't normal, get checked.
Hi guys,
A couple of weeks into injections and it's going fine. DH does them for me every night (love him!) and so far only one bruise. FX that it continues to go smoothly!
QOTW: I had a really sudden "thunderclap" headache. However, it was a couple of months before my wedding, so I thought that it was just a migraine brought on by stress. After a couple of days of non-stop pain and nausea, I went to the ER and they discovered my clot (in my transverse sinus at the back of my brain) with MRI. Ugh.
Still hanging around on bed rest! Bored out of my mind, lol. Shots are fine - it's getting hard to pinch skin on my belly, so I'm going to ask my OB about trying them in the thigh.
QOTW: Never had an actual clot.
I am 9w2d and a little over two weeks in with shots and doing good. No bruising on my right side but lots on my left, not really sure why the difference.
I had a DVT in my left leg for just over 3 weeks. My husband is an auto detailer and I help him on the weekends and after work when needed. We worked on a car for 10 hours one saturday and when I woke up the next morning my leg hurt. I just thought I hurt my leg while detailing the car. I was crouched down a lot sitting on my legs for awhile. After three days and lots of yelling from my mom to do to the Dr I finally went in. They did an ultrasound and didnt see anything, he said I pulled my calf and gave me pain pills and sent me home. It didnt get any better so I went to a Physical therapist who looked at the leg and thought the same thing. I was having calf messages and electric shock done for a week. I am so lucky to be alive!!
It got to be so painful I couldn't funtion. I could barley walk, sit, take a shower, go to work without crying daily and my leg was huge by the end of every day. I called the dr and demanded an MRI to figure it out sure enough huge clot found behind the knee. I was admitted to the ER that morning and was in the ICU for three days while they tried to break up the clot. It had grown from my calf up past my groin area. I have no clotting disorders and I can no longer be on birth control the Dr's think is was a combination of birth control and the injury to the calf.
Chugging along and waiting for my first OB appt. In the last 24hrs, nausea, boob tenderness, and general achiness have all gone off the charts. I think my fibromyalgia is officially weighing in on my pregnancy and it's decided it's going to make me miserable. Restless leg, neck pain, and carpal tunnel all flaring. Yay!
QOTW: Had a thunderclap headache and wrote it off as a migraine. After a week of fighting the headache, noticed weakness on my right side and had our nurse/neighbor check it out, neuro exam was clean. On the walk home, called my mom and had a bout of aphasia--couldn't put together a sentence. Mom was certain I was having a stroke, but I could still walk, etc, so I was thinking panic attack. Mom called DH to light a fire under him, but he couldn't be home for another 45 min, at which point the aphasia was subsiding.
48hrs went by with no symptoms other than the headache, then the nausea and debilitating neck pain kicked in. Went to the ER twice, and had them tell me it was a migraine twice! Went to the local clinic and was told it was deep muscle spasm or allergies or chiropractic issues! After a full week of being unable to keep any food, water, or medicine down, I called Mom again and begged her to come help me (she lives 2000mi away, but DH was our only income-earner at the time. He worked solely on commission, so taking time off meant we were in danger of not paying our rent.) By the time Mom arrived 36hrs later, double vision had started as had some facial drooping. She called neurologists in the area and was offered appts 2mos out from most, but finally was able to talk to a triage nurse in one of the offices and I saw the doc over his lunch. MRI and MRV showed multiple thromboses on the right side of my brain--in fact to see the films, it looks like I had no blood flowing on that side, including the jugular, which explains the extreme neck pain. Within 36hrs on heparin and coumadin, pain subsided and could move my head and neck again. Total span of time from first symptom to diagnosis: 27days, 2 useless ER visits, 5 different misdiagnoses, and one brush with death. 3yrs later, still get residual aches on the right side of my neck, but am pretty happy that I got to live to see my 30th birthday.
Everything here is going good. Had my NT yesterday. Baby is already showing they are going to be stubborn. Wouldnt get into position to see their neck. Kept putting chin down to chest. Than would move around. The tech took 30 mins to gt a chance to have a good shot at the neck. But hey I didnt mind.
As far as a blood clot, never had one. But with my job (firefighter medic) I have seen several people with clots. Sudden onset of trouble breathing, heart racing, are some good signs to look out for.
So far things are still going good! Two weeks from today we are being induced! I can not wait for that either. Its been a long journey and I am so ready to be a mommy now! Shots have not been to bad, brusing on both sides but so use to them now!
Only blood clots that I have known of was the ones in our second pregnancy, inside our little girls placenta.
