Challenge: Chores into mama-toddler adventures

This is kind-of a lame challenge post, but...

I'm bummed that our local stride rite store is closing. It's nice to have somebody measure your kid's feet for you, and it was fun to have a mama-son adventure together when we went to buy new shoes. The staff was always really friendly and kind, and LO was usually the littlest one there, so got lots of attention. (and it was close to a coffee shop, so we could get mama a treat, too).

I know I can still order through Zappos, and probably get a better selection, but that involves more time on the computer at bed/naptime, and probably will take me 3x as long to compute the shoe size and come to a decision from the vast array of choices than our little shoe store adventure would have taken.

Do you have any neighborhood/local places you visit with lo that can turn chores into a mama-baby adventure? What are they?

Bummer that your store is closing.

Our local Barnes and Noble has a train table and a Duplo table in the kids and toy sections.   We see a few fellow daycare parents there from time to time.

  • I actually love taking DS1 to the grocery store. He loves picking out a cart and riding  in it and checking everything out. It's entertaining for him and makes it less boring for me.

  • We love going to Barnes and Noble and playing in the toy section too! It's like an air conditioned playground!  We also go to the mall a lot and share snacks, look around at toys and clothes, and we used to visit the puppies, but they closed the pet store recently :(

Oh, you should see if your local Macy's has a Stride Rite store in it...ours does!

  • Payless will also measure your child's feet for you if you have one of those close...

I like going out to eat with Nate just the two of us on a little date.  He's always really well behaved in public (unlike home, where he throws things and yells! Why is that?!)  I let him sit in a booster when it's just us and we giggle and point out things in the restaurant and share food.  My dad used to take me out for breakfast when I was little as a Daddy/Daughter Date and I loooved it.  I want to keep doing this as he gets older, just the two of us sometimes.

  • I do groceries with him. I find a little chart that he pulls around, and he helps me load into the chart. (It do lead to certain explosive epiodes during our shopping, but I pray that he eventually gets better - and over the summer it has).

We also unload the dishwasher og the laundrybasket, he set up easy meals on our table (puts cheese, ham, butter, plates, knifes, etc) and he is "postmaster" = he carry the mail from our mailbox into our home.. So yeah, he does do a few "chores" - but not everyday, just when it is convenient..
