Good OB appt, but probably having c-section

I saw OB yesterday for ultrasound and check-up.  The babies look great and are measuring at about the 75th percentile.  Baby A was estimated at 5, 14 and Baby B was estimated at 5, 8 at 33 1/2 weeks.  They flip-flopped with A finally turning vertex but B turning breech.  When OB went over the ultrasound results with me he noted that the heads are a little bigger than average (we are a big-headed family), and he said that he would probably be hesitant to do a breech delivery due to the bigger heads (he had said that he would do an extraction for Baby B if needed).  I was a little disappointed because I don't want a c-section, but perhaps I'll get lucky and they'll both be vertex (we have a few more weeks).   I can see the finish line and just hope to hold out for about 4 more weeks--amazing!!!!

  • I'm sorry, but I had to LOL at "we are a big-headed family"! I have a friend who's H has a big head as well and she asked her OB when they found out she was pregnant if that was something they might have to worry about!

Glad you had a good appointment. There's still time for B to turn - here's hoping!

Best of luck over the next few weeks!

  • We'll probably be in the same boat -- DH's head has quite large. Heck, he was tortured by being called "Big Head" as a kid -- and it still bothers him. And the size of his fitted hats...insane. Lol. However, his mom didn't have a c/s, so who knows!

  • I don't know...  If a vaginal delivery is really important then I would do a trial of labor before agreeing to a scheduled c/s.  I'm surprised your OB is worried about big heads when your babies are so small (and in all reality are likely a little smaller than the u/s estimate).

However, if you are not set on a vaginal birth then opting for the c/s out of the gate may not be a bad thing for you.  Really it all comes down to what you AND your doctor are most comfortable with and there is NO shame in having a c/s with multiples, especially when conditions are not absolutely perfect.

Anyway, good luck with your decision.  I had healthy sized twins and the entire latter part of my pregnancy I was told that my baby A had a big head.  Turns out their heads were exactly the same size when they were born.  I worried about pushing out a giant head the size of my DH's for no good reason at all!
