My sister sent me this article:
She knows I've been looking into adoption and she asked if Americans are able to adopt from the countries mentioned. So I look up Greece and find that it's rare for Americans to adopt from there since there is a 5 year waiting period. Five years!! Next I check out Italy and can barely find info since it is so very rare for Americans to adopt from there. I wonder if due to the increase in abandoned children these countries will change their laws. It just breaks my heart that there are so many children in need of a good home and yet the hoops one would have to jump through to bring a child home are such a deterrent. Anyway, no real point to this post...just thought some of you might be interested.

Re: Yahoo Article
That is a pretty interesting article. I had never heard of "baby hatches."
Those last two lines are pretty loaded. What do you think the implications of that are? Do they mean abandoned, as opposed to a legal relinquishment like in an adoption?
"Article 7 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, states that every child has 'the right to know and be cared for by his or her parents,' he said.
"When a child is abandoned, this right is violated," he said.
