dear 33 weeks: why are nights so hard?

Excuse my complaniing: I remain thankful to have inside babies who are growing and thriving...

So the last two nights have been no fun, contractions all night long no matter how I lay, sit, move, or "sleep". Drink water, lay on left side, try changing positions. Nothing helps. I actually spent last night packing my hospital bag because I was convinced I was starting to labor.

BUT then morning comes, I felt exhausted but showered, dressed and then had some breakfast and felt OK. What in the world? How can I feel so terrible at night but then OK during the day?

  • Hey!  We have the exact same due date!  I hear you on the rough nights!  I mentioned having a lot more contractions at night at my last appointment and my doctor pretty much just said "oh, you probably just notice it more at night because you are resting and paying more attention to what your body is doing"  ummmm ok?  I don't know if that's the case but he didn't seem concerned.  Doesn't it sometimes feel like the next 4 weeks are going to take an entire year?   Hope it gets better for you soon!

  • I started having a harder time at about 33 weeks too but it was the exact opposite of your problem. I felt great if I was lying down but as soon as I stood I thought the babies were going to be born right then. I found that it was the weight of my belly that was making me contract the most and the downward pull of it was causing my contractions. Do you have any kind of support under your belly when you sleep? It's possible that the weight of your belly being pulled sideways is causing some of your pain. That seems like way too easy of an explanation but hopefully it helps!

  • I am earlier than you, and have pre-term contractions and Pre-term labor, but I have the same thing! Last night especially, I feel like I have contractions most of the night but not as many during the day. And I know that it isn't because I am "resting" at night, because I am on bed rest and lay around all day! My OB didn't seem to believe that it was that different, either. Only thing I could think of is that i have more contractions with a full bladder, and since I'm semi-sleeping then I'm peeing less at night? so more contractions? not sure.
