All of the m/c posts?
I told DH that I wanted to ask the NP at our appointment yesterday about the dopplers you can buy and use at home. When he told me that he thought it was a waste, I broke down sobbing that he didn't understand how many girls post on these boards every day about having later miscarriages. Perhaps I'm a bit more sensitive to it since we had a loss in September (though it was a very early loss at 4w5d), but it seems like there are so many girls who go in thinking that everything is fine only go find out that the baby has died.
The NP pretty much told me that the dopplers you can buy in the store aren't worth your money since the kind they use in the office run about $700-$800 and it was hard for even her to find the hb yesterday. She said that now that we've seen (8 week u/s) and heard (9w2d appt) the hb, my chances of m/c are pretty much as low as they're going to get.
I can't help but freak out a bit every time I see one of those posts. I love being able to talk to other women who are going through the same things i am, but sometimes I wonder if I'd be less stressed if I'd never found the bump boards.
Re: Does anyone else get freaked out by...
I was gonna post about it earlier today too! I wasn't on for the past couple of days and just scrolling down the posts, there were so many losses its scary! I can't help but worry about my baby, I just pray everything is okay!
No doubt it can be tough.
Perhaps because I've had a m/c myself, the posts don't "scare" me so much as make me feel bad for the person posting.
But my husband? He can't read any of that stuff, or hear about it on TV or anything.
Stay positive!
You can rent a doppler monthly, but the ones you buy in the store are complete crap (the cheapo ones....I have one from my first pg and can only just now hear the h/b with it).
The rental ones are about $20 a month though.
But really, it's tough but there isn't anything you can do except relax and enjoy being pg. Bad things happen, that's just the way the world is and it's nothing anyway can do to stop it.
I can understand your fear. I also had a m/c in Sept. When I was on here the 1st time all the m/c posts did really make me nervous - which drove my DH crazy. However now I'm just nervous this time because of my previous loss. We saw the heartbeat after carrying for just over 8 wks but our baby still died a week later. The 1st time around I talked to my DH about renting a doppler as I had seen these online. Since then though I've heard about how difficult it can be to find the baby's heartbeat & I don't want to scare myself more than necessary.
Now an ultrasound machine - that's what I really want!
I also freak when I read those posts, but I try to remind myself that worrying does no good.
I have seen and heard the heartbeat, which I keep reminding myself of.
Good luck!
Ibis, no offense taken. Don't worry. I think the problem is that after seeing so many posts (one being my own back in September) and being on the m/c board for a while, the bad stories are in my head whether or not I'm here.
Does anyone know any good doppler rental sites?
It's understandable, especially since I've had 2 losses this year. The SAL board has mantras that really help though. 2 that seem appropriate here are:
"My past does not dictate my future. A previous m/c does not mean I will have another m/c." "Just because something sad is happening to another poster, does not mean it will happen to you." We all know m/c and complications are not contagious!I feel the same way. It worrys me and I feel so sad everytime I see one of those posts. We didn't see anything at 5 weeks, well except for the sac. Tomorrow will be just over 7 weeks and I am praying everythings ok.
I was really freaked to. I read that only 20% end in m/c. That leaves you an 80% chance that everything will be fine. Just relax, and enjoy. In the life of your child, thier will only be one pregnancy moment- only one 8 week, 9 week, 10 week, yiadia ya....
Don't stress.
Dopplers aren't full proof. In fact, they usually do more bad than good. Most people can't hear anything with those until much later on and so they think there's no heartbeat. Doctor's offices' dopplers are high-end and usually can't pick up a heartbeat until after 9 weeks. Home ones aren't nearly as good.
Just take care of yourself and try to stay calm...that's the best you can do.
Thanks, txbabs! These are great!
Hi Robbie.
I do. Especially those that have seen/heard the hb already and a few weeks later no more hb
Whether or not you are on the bump the m/c rates are the same. It is fairly common to m/c in the first trimester. I think they say 1 in 4 womein will m/c before the heart starts to beat. For me being on the nest has educated me to where when I m/c'd before my DS I wasn't compltely devestated. I mean I was upset, but I knew there was nothing I could do and it just happens. So for me being educated about all this is good for me. There is no reason to stress or freak out, it is beyond your control. Just relax and hope all is well.
Oh and I do have a home doppler that I got when i was pg with DS. I can't even remember the brand or website where I got it, but it was like $120 and it worked great. It totally gave me peace of mind and I loved having it. I'm going to try looking for the h/b for this baby soon.
