Babies: 0 - 3 Months

do you help your LO roll over?

If you have a LO who is at that age to possibly begin rolling from back to side or side to back, have you been "helping" him or her to do this?  I'm noticing Aiden is starting to rock from his back to his side, but his little bum is still stuck to the floor, so to speak.  I don't know if its best to let him figure it out when its time or to gently help him roll to his side or back to his back to get him used to it?  I do tummy time so I figured its the same thing to help him out.  What are your thoughts?

Re: do you help your LO roll over?

  • I kind of helped LO after awhile if he seemed to get really frustrated/pissy. But, sometimes I'd do it he would seem really angry that I took away his "fun" of trying to turn over.

  • I wouldn't help. It would be like going up to someone at the gym and helping them lift their weights. Baby needs to work out!

  • I helped my DS a few times when he was close to figuring it out - at about 4-5 months old.  It was more trying to "teach" him how to do it.

  • I help mine out a little, but moer to get her used to the feeling of rolling over. It's a new experice to them and can scare them. I used to work at a daycare in the infant room and a lot of times we saw that the first time they rolled over on their own it would kind of scare a lot of them. The "practice" (and not much) at least gave them a feeling of what it was like and kept them from being freaked out.

  • mine just rolled over from front to back on his own at seven weeks.
