Advice for Family Day outing

DS will be 15 months old this week, and while we are on our "stay-cation" this coming week I was thinking we would hit up on of the great baltimore attractions, looking for advice from anyone who has experience taking a toddler to below places.  Which one in your opinon is the best for a kiddo his age (most activities, family friendly, etc)

 A) port discovery

B) Science center

C) B&O railrod museum

D) aquarium

 Thanks for the advice!

  • I would skip the science center.

My DD really liked Port discovery (they have a tot area), plus DD loved B&O railroad museum and aquarium.

  • Thanks! I was leaning towards Port Discovery just b/c it seems so kid friendly, but DH was thinking the aquarium.  The only thing I see getting on my nerves about the aquarium is the no stroller thing.  I have an Ergo, but DS is at the point he wants to be down and running, or in the stroller.  Baby leash anyone....... :) j/k

  • I actually completely disagree.  B&O RR museum for me is okay, but really is geared toward older men.  (I feel that there is a lot of missed potential w/the museum).  Port Discovery has a nice room now for the under 3 crowd that opened about a year and a half ago that is pretty nice.  I think the science center is your best bet though as they have a room specifically for the under 2 crowd and an entire large room (equipped w/a GIANT water table) for kids 3rd grade and younger.  (The aquarium is pretty nice too and I would honestly let DS walk/run through it but if you do - go 3 pm or later as it isn't that crowded.  If you get there at 3 (or slightly before) you can still make it in time for the 330 dolphin show.  I think it's at 330 - you should def. check.

  • We are taking DS to Port Discovery with my momma friends and their kids next Saturday for the first time - excited about it since my friends say their kids have a great time. I also want to try the Aquarium since he loves pointing and saying hi to the fishes in the tank at the doctors. But, I was going to probably save that for a rainy day or a cold day in the Fall or Winter Smile

Have you done the zoo yet? We just took DS to the National Zoo for his first zoo experience 2 weeks ago and he loved it!!!

DH is a volunteer diver at the aquarium and I go quite frequently with DS. I use a leash on him because I cannot carry him in the Ergo (kills my back). He is quite the runner and he does run all over the place, but he does enjoy himself. If you are going to go to the aquarium, do it before Labor Day. They are shutting the Wings in Water exhibit down to replace it with a new shark exhibit. IMHO it is one of the best exhibits right now to see, especailly when the divers are in there feeding the rays, turtle, and Sharks. Also, there are NO more dolphin shows.

Aw, bummer about both those things. My niece will be thrilled about the new shark exhibit, though, as she is in love with them and wants to be a marine biologist when she grows up :)  Why are there no more dolphin shows?
