I am curious to know how many moms breastfeed and never got their period. I have been told this and it sounds so great but is it really that you don't get your period or maybe it was just really light? Please explain :-)
I nursed/pumped for about a year and didn't get a period at all (not even a light one) until about a month after we stopped completely. I've heard that it's not the same for everyone though. I think a few of my friends got their periods back once the baby started solids and stopped nursing so much.
I BF for 3 months before having supply issues and drying up completely. I continued for several more months to try to re-lactate and pumped often. I think I went 7-8 months without getting a period. It was great! Just make sure to talk to your doctor. Mine had an amount of time after I stopped BF/pumping that I should start having a period. If it hadn't started up in that amount of time, she would have put me on some type of medicine to get it to start up again.
Once DS dropped his first feeding around 4mo it came 28 days later. We continued to bf until he was 10 1/2mo. I will say though that my supply dipped a little around my time of the month, but other than that no issues.
I breastfed DD exclusivity until 6 months, and then still 2-3 times a day once she started solids, and finally stopped when she was 13 months. With that being said, she was born in July (1st) and by the middle to end of that November my period was back. Most of my girl friends have had similar experiences too, where 5-8 months after having DC their periods returned while still BFing.

I EBFed DS until 6 months, then started formula feeding during the day and continued BFing him first thing in the morning and right before bed until 9 months. I got my first period in April, so 10 months after he was born and about a month after stopping completely.
I have to say, it is AWESOME not getting your period for like a solid year and a half. Since my kids are al,l about 2 years apart, I havnt had my period way more then I've had it for the past 4.5 years. I always hate when it comes back especially because my period got so much heavier after I started having kids.

Yeah I am loving not getting my period right now and I didn't know about you not getting your period while Breastfeeding. It's just another good bonus!
I exclusively pumped for 6 mths and started weaning at 6mth and 1 week. I didn't get my first pp period until about 2 weeks later (after almost completely done pumping).
I didn't even have any spotting or anything until that time.

I am always amazed at people who are able to go so long without a period. I EBF on demand until he started some light solids at 6 months (we did BLW for solids introduction, so he didn't really eat much for the first month or two.) My period came back when he was 7.5 months old, and I was still breastfeeding at night and at least 8 times+ in 24 hours. I was hoping to reap the benefits of no periods a little bit longer, especially with a baby who was not STTN, but my body really likes ovulating, I guess. One of my friends was the type whose body was so sensitive to nursing that even when she was just nursing one time a day, she still didn't ovulate. Everybody's body reacts differently.

I weaned DD just after her first bday. I started getting a period when she was about 9 months old and eating more solids. It was great. It did suck BF and having a period...I felt completely exhasted during those times. I have a friend who gets a period every 28 days unless she is pregnant, even while breastfeeding.
TTC #1 since 05/09
Me: Oligomenorrhea (workup for PCOS turned out to be negative)
DH: 1st SA 11/09: good volume but only 20% normal
Cycle #1: Clomid 50mg=No O
1/10 2nd SA (this time at the fertility clinic): PERFECT!!!
1/10 My Tests: HSG All clear! B/W is normal!
2/10 Started Acupuncture
I breastfed for 5 months. At the end of the week I stopped nursing, I finally got my period. I'm not sure if that's coincidence or not. I had the post partum bleeding and then nothing until I stopped breastfeeding.
I'm still BFing my 21mos old. My period came back when DD was 7mos. She was still nursing around the clock and since we did solids BLW style she really wasn't eating solids either. However it took my body a couple of cycles to start ovulating again.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
I BF'd, but we also supplemented for one feeding a day (DH waking up with DS at night), and I never got my period back because I got pregnant again after eight months. I think it's super unusual to get pregnant on your first ovualtion after giving birth though. My mom EBF both my brother and I, and she said she got her period back after 3-4 months with both of us.
Some people do get their period while nursing, but I never did. DS was born in January, I nursed exclusively until August & part-time throughout September. I got my first post-partum period in late September/early October (and then got pg again the following January, so only 3 periods in between). I'm hoping for similar results this time around.

I breastfed DS, and did not get my period until about a month after he weaned (which was around 8 months). I gave birth in May, and had my first period the following February.
I nursed/pumped for about 6 months. During that time I never got a period and never spotted (although I was paranoid I was going to get it- it never showed up). Even after I stopped BF'ing and pumping, it took a while for me to get my period again (I can't remember exactly how long it took though). Hope that helps!
For the 14 months that I breastfed/pumped, I had no period or spotting. I asked my doctor about it because I was concerned, and she said it happened with some people. Most of my friends who were breastfeeding had lighter periods. I was one of the few with nothing. It took a month or two after she was weaned before it showed up again.
I EBF our daughter for 9 months and I Continued to pump till she was just under a year and I got my period back 8 weeks postpartum. Some people are very lucky to get a nice break unfortunately not I.
I BFed full time to 7 months and then part of the time to 16 months. I also had an IUD until DS was 21 months old. I got my BFP for this LO when DS was 22.5 months old. No period. I would guess it was a combo of the IUD and nursing. I did spot a little from time to time, but I think that was mostly from the IUD
I went 9 months without a period at all. Once DS started easting a lot more solids and nursing less was when it came back.... I didn't miss it and I don't know about anyone else but when I finally did have it the cramps were awful.
