Adoption Book Recommendation

Hi All,

Just wanted to suggest a GREAT adoption book  which is a really good read and super informative called Attaching in Adoption: Practical Tools for Today's Parents by Deborah D. Gray.    I was able to get from my local library.

Wishing everyone my very best!

Re: Adoption Book Recommendation

  • I think I have that book; I'll have to double check!  I just read Open Adoption, Open Hearts by Russell Elkins.  It's about how he and his wife dealt with IF and then decided to adopt.  They have an open adoption with their son's birthmom.  I liked it.  He describes how near the birth of their son, the birthmother lived with them and what it was like getting to know her.  Not the typical situation with her living with them, but it was interesting.

  • I love book recommendations.  Unfortunately, no libraries near me have it but I found it on Amazon used for only a couple bucks.

I'm currently reading "Secret Daughter" by Shilpi Somaya Gowda which was recommended by someone on this board.  I am undecided on it.  I am enjoying reading it but it is kind of bumming me out and there are some very disturbing parts in it.

  • Ironically, I'm an adoptee and now in the process of adoption, I am able to relate and understand both sides of adoption by reading alot of books! Smile

Thank you all for info on other books - I will be sure to check them out.

  • Can't wait to get my hands on these books. Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I have a book recommendation as well but it is not adoption related. If you are looking for something on a spiritual level or to help deepen your faith I suggest any of Sharon Jayne's books. I just finished reading "The 5 Dreams of Every Woman" and loved it!
