No, this is not my idea. I'll admit that I just stole it from the radio program I'm listening to. The radio show has people call in and tell the listening audience what they're arguing about and the listeners call in and vote for one side or the other (it's call Great Mate Debate).
Anyway, this couple has a baby that will be 1 in September and from what I understand the husband's side of the family has a tradition to have a kegger in conjunction with the baby's 1st birthday as a way of celebrating the new life and really making a good ol' time of the whole thing. The wife is completely against it as her family and friends will be at the party and she doesn't think it's appropriate. What say you?

If its a party where adults are guests (like at a 1st bday party, not at a 10th bday party), then I consider it good hosting to have adult beverages.
We had beer (no keg, since we didn't have enough guests to justify it), and an "adult jungle punch").

Was that Slacker and Steve? I love them!
And heck yes I'd have a kegger. But then, I think beer is always a good idea. We had a keg at my baby shower....

Yes. I have no issues with this. Birthdays for little little ones are really not for the kid, as it has NO idea what is going on.
I've never been to a little little kid's b-day that didn't have adult beverages. Most showers (baby and other) have alcohol too.

Well, what do they mean by Kegger? Like, when I was in HS/College, a Kegger was a huge party usually with multiple kegs. If they are just having 1 keg (I know then it is technically a kegger) then probably not too bad if there is a decent size guest list.
We will have beer available for our guests at DD's 1st Bday party in Sept. But it will be at 11:30am so I don't for see people getting wasted.
When I think Kegger, I think drunk college coeds competing for the title of "got the drunkest fastest" award (so to speak). So by that definition, definitely not.
However, if it is like others are saying where it is a keg for the purpose of having a crowd and not wanting to bother with individual bottles/cans, then that's another thing and I wouldn't be opposed. Having adult beverages available is fine IMHO.
We would do it, but only because we have several kegs on hand and several hundred bottles of beer and wine in the basement as DH brews/makes it. We'll probably just have family and a few friends over for DD's 1st birthday. It won't be a big thing. Picnic/grill food. Maybe 15 guests, but I'm sure DH will serve whatever people want from his "brewitorium".
