Fall decor

I am incredibly OVER this ridiculous heat, so I am currently planning my Fall decor, in hopes it will make it get here quicker! :) Of course, being so far south, I really have no idea what a real fall is like, but my idea of it is glorious!

So my questions are: Do you have any cute ideas for Fall decor or wreaths? And how much do you decorate your house for seasons/holidays, other than Christmas? I'd love to get into decorating more for the seasons and holidays.

Re: Fall decor

  • For fall, I usually plants some mums in pots out front and place the pumpkins from the pumpkin patch out there too.  I might try a stick wreath this year with a beautiful satin ribbon for the door.  We'll see! :-)

Inside, I have to have a yummy fall candle (pumpkin spice, cinnamon, apple, etc.)  I also have slipcovers for our dining room chairs and stools that I change to red and have orange and green linens for the table.  There are apples and leaves in vases for a centerpiece.  And I change out the dishtowels and guest hand towels as well.  I try and not do too much "Halloween" but more fall decor.  That way it will last through Thanksgiving (obviously not the real pumpkins) and then I can just change for Christmas.

I don't do much...pretty much buy a pumpkin or two and that's it. I do try to make apple cider and fall-ish foods to make the house smell like the season. Ohhh I can't wait until fall!!

Me too! Love the colors, smells, pretty much everything!

  • I completely agree with CJ about a theme,  I pick areas of our house that I want to decorate, and I plan them out.  Then, I make a very specific shopping list for anything I'm missing, and go from there.  I really try to decorate seasonally, and throw in some small holiday specific pieces that make the house feel celebratory.  I have almost all of my fall decor down pat, as well as spring, winter is a bit too holiday themed at the moment, and I have nothing for summer.  I just try not to spend more than $100 a season on decor stuff, unless we host a party.

For fall, I have lanterns with filler and candles, a banner for the hearth, pumpkins (real and fake) everywhere, a Halloween and Fall wreath, a few silk floral arrangements, colored candles and Yankee candles, linens for the living and dining room, table top items for the dining room table, and small kitchen things like dishtowels and soap dispensers.  This year should be interesting, because it is the first year that I will also have to baby proof the house.

Honestly, I adore Pinterest for ideas.  The PB catalog is my usual inspiration, but I always end up buying something from them, so lately I've been trying to find less expensive options.
