Has anyone taken their wee one on a cruise? We've never been on a cruise before and thought it might be easy and fun. It's a five-night trip to the Yucatan.
We just got back a week ago from a seven day(st Maarten, st Thomas and Bahamas) with our ten month old. This was our third cruise but cruising with her was a breeze! I would suggest bringing a stroller that has a good seat recline and umbrella( we brought our travel system stroller) and if you have a carrier to wear your lo I would bring that also. I wore my lo around the ship we were walking. You can check with the cruise line about cribs. If you can afford it I would suggest a balcony room bc with your lo you will probably be spending a lot of time hanging out in your room(dd loved looking out and it gave me something to do while she napped). If you have any other questions I would be happy to try and answer.
We have just booked a 12 day cruise in July. I have cruised once before without LO and we have travelled twice now elsewhere with LO. I think there will be a lot of entertainment to keep LO busy (although she will be walking at this point..) I trust the kids club although I don't really plan on using it we didn't when we travelled with my step daughter, but it's there if we just need an hour. When we travelled in January I took my maclaren stroller and I wished it were more comfortable for her to nap in but we did just fine. As PP said I am also considering taking the travel system but it is so much bigger, harder to store in the small rooms and its hard work in the airport.. We considered a balcony room although much more expensive for us but I justified it would just make me worry if we had it. Not that I think she will jump over and someone wouldn't be watching her but it just gives me the eebie jeebies my SD is 7 and despite our best efforts small items get left on the floor, gates left open etc... like I said we would watch her at all times but gives me chills!! So.. we got just an outside room.
I think you would like a cruise with a LO and I think we will too. I actually think it will be more laid back than our resort trips and there service is unbeatable on ships!

So a bigger stroller is better than an umbrella one. --I was so glad I brought ours. It took up a little more room but it was worth it to have her out of the sun with a comfortable place to nap. if your lo can nap in your umbrella stroller and it has a decent umbrella you would be ok with it but my umbrella stroller is worthless.
Is there any babysitting for kids under 2? --I believe they have to be out of diapers for this as well.
Also, did you bring your own water for formula? --We brought water but she also drank water from the ship.
We are also getting a passport for her even though they say it is not necessary.
We're cruising next month. DD will be a bit over a year.
We're doing Royal Caribbean to Bermuda, and they have a special kids' pool that babies can swim in. H's grandmother is the one who booked the cruise for the whole family, and she has been teaching kids to swim for 40 years...she wasn't going to go on a cruise where her great granddaughter wasn't allowed in the pools.
We got a passport for her. Not necessary to board the ship, but is necessary if you have an emergency and need to fly home.
RC has babysitting for kids ages 6 months and up. I thought this was the case for most cruiselines, but I can't say for sure.
We are going on a cruise next March, My MIL is paying for my husband and I, my MIL and FIl and brother in-law and our (at the time of the cruise) nearly one year old son. I am very excited! My first cruise was when I was 5 months pregnant, so even though we didn't have kids, we still couldn't do any excersions, I had to take naps, and I was picky about what I ate lol, and we had a GREAT time! I know so many friends that think we are crazy for bringing baby with us, but I think I'd be more stressed leaving him behind for a whole week than I'm going to be with him with me. We are doing royal carribean which has a nursery and a baby sitter service along with toy exchange and mommy and me type classes. We already travel with our son a ton so I dont think he'll have too many issues being away from home. i'm also kinda glad to have the baby with me so I have an excuse to get away from my in laws if i need too. lol. Good luck on your cruise! I'll be waiting for some updates

question for those who have done cruises with baby: our ship also doesn't allow babies in the pools.....is it crazy to bring one of those baby blow up baths/pools? My husband thinks it is, but I think our son would enjoy getting to play in the water on the boat...

Re: baby on a cruise
Babies in swim diapers still can't go in the pools can they? Or has that changed?
