September 2012 Moms

well, that was unexpected

had my first internal exam (along with the step test) today...and holy mother of all things pearl, did that HURT! i was totally not expecting that much pain from a simple cervical check.

how on earth am i going to push out a baby if just a check put me in tears?

ETA: she said my cervix was soft, no dilation or effacement, but didn't make any reference to high or low. she also said that my hip pain was most likely due to LO's head being engaged, but to keep an eye on it, and if it gets worse, to see about physical therapy.

  • did the doctor say anything about your cervix being really high? that can cause it to be much more uncomfortable...

  • Because when you're pushing a baby out, you get a baby at the end, instead of just someone's fingers poking around. Wink

  • I guess it's different for everyone. I had 3 or so before going into labor w/ ds & the only one that hurt was the one at which they stripped my membranes.

  • You also get great hormones coursing through your system to help you. No happy hormones are released during a check. :)

  • I am so nervous about getting checked!! I'm thinking of just asking to skip them. I hear some people say it hurts so bad and wind up being sore for a few days, then others say its no big deal. I wish I knew what to expect.

  • I've had 4 and none of them hurt. My SIL had 2 she said one hurt very very bad, but the second didn't hurt at all.  So who knows?

  • The cervical checks I got before being in labor hurt more because my cervix was posterior and high. After I was in labor..or well, sfter my water broke they didn't hurt possibly because my cervix was anterior. Just a thought!

  • The higher the cervix, the more uncomfortable they can be.  I'm actually looking forward to mine next week - haha.  Out of curiosity more than anything else.
