Embryo Thaw...

So for anyone here that has gone through a FET, what have your experiences been?  We have 10 little frosties that are being thawed today for our FET on Tuesday, and obviously I want to be hopeful and think that all 10 will survive, but I'm not sure how realistic that is.  

On the one hand, I'm super excited that it's almost here after a wait that seems like it took years, but on the other, I'm a little nervous at how many will survive the thaw and make it the full 5 days.

I typically post over on the TTTC board, but I think more people over here have the IVF experience?  Anyway, any thoughts and/or advice are welcome!  Thanks!

    A lot depends on how they were frozen and their initial grading. I'm more familiar with blast thaws than embryos frozen prior to that, but your best source is your clinic; they can tell you exactly what their thaw rates are, as statistics vary a lot from clinic to clinic. And keep in mind that there will be attrition between day 3 and blast, so you should expect that some or many won't make it and it's perfectly normal. Good luck.

    Good Luck with your upcoming FET!  Are they thawing all 10?  I would think they would only defrost the amount being transferred but this is all new to me too.  Again I wish you the best of luck with your FET.

    Hi! Just throwing in my story because it sounds similar to yours...I had 14 embies frozen at day 2 also due to OHSS risk. (It sounds like yours were likely also frozen at day 1 or 2...I think this is fairly common.) We did our FET last Friday and transferred 2 day 3 embies. My clinic thawed 7 total (of the original 14), we lost 1 in the thaw (leaving 6)-- 2 looked great (we transferred those), 1 looked good, and the other 3 showed slight fragmentation. I found out on Tuesday that none of the remaining 4 made it to blastocyst (therefore none were able to re-freeze for future transfer). This made me very sad and a little concerned about the quality of the embies we transferred...but some of the best advice I heard on this board was to plan NOT to have anything to freeze (since it is much more rare than most of us realize), that way any frosties are just a nice surprise.
