I got my results back today and I tested positive for Group B Strep.
What did they do to keep your baby from getting it?
Is this anything serious that I should be worried about? I googled it and it doesn't seem like anything to get all worked up about.
This is my first pregnancy and I don't know of anyone else that has tested positive for GBS, so I was just curious as to if any of you have tested positive. TIA

Re: Anyone else test positive for Group B Strep?
Thank you!
I haven't gotten my results back yet, but I'm pretty sure the only course of action is that they will administer IV antibiotics to you during L&D so you won't pass the bacteria to the baby as he/she comes down the birth canal. I'm not even terribly sure they do that for c/s, just vaginal births. I think they have to actually come into contact with that area to be affected.
ETA: Reese posted before I finished. lol... I guess you get antibiotics anyway during a c/s but I don't think the risk is there for the GBS bacteria like it is for a vag birth.
I was curious how the H*ll they know it's in your vag? They stick the same wand that they shoved in your vag up your butt too... How do they know it's not in your butt? LoL! Thanks for the laugh!
That's something new to look forward to!! **Sighs**

OMG! I just snorted! So you would be pretty surprised when they said drop your pants... With a swab in their hand? Lol! Yes they swab your vag and your butt!
I was tested for it a few days ago at my 36 week apt, but have not received the results and had the test with my DS and was negative.
Interestingly-- I think my doctor only swabs the vagina, not the butt. She only had 1 swab and I don't recall her eihter telling me she was swapping my butt or touching it, so I don't think she did that.
Did everyone else get their butt swabbed? I wonder why my doctor does not do it (or could I have missed this both times and only noticed the vaginal swab and them picking up a 2nd swab-- which seems unlikely). ?
Here's a link from the CDC. https://www.cdc.gov/groupbstrep/about/prevention.html
Just make sure your doc know if you are allergic to penicillin as that's what they usually treat for. If you aren't treated for penicillin or if you don't get enough of the antibiotics before delivery they'll observe baby for 48 hours after birth.
Hilarious.
I tested + with my last pg, but haven't been tested yet this time.
There was a post yesterday about it to:

Hahahahha sorry but this made me laugh so hard. For your sake I hope they are more worried about the baby coming into contact with your vag/butt region than your throat during delivery.
This. I was positive with DS too. It wasn't a big deal at all.
