You guys I'm an emotional mess:(

Today was ds's junior high orientation and my baby girl is turning one next week. Dh is out of town for a week and I've been crying all day. I'm so nervous for DS. I've been back and forth with school and pedi all summer trying to figure out what the next step is for him(those of you who don't know, autism has been brought up) and we've all decided to give him 6 months before we put him through testing and see how he adjusts. I'm scared:(

  • Shanado don't worry he will be fine. All you can do is be supportive to him and let him be (I know easier said than done). ::::Big Hugs::::

  • You have every right to be emotional. You have two beautiful children who are blessed to have you. Your son will get the support he needs, especially if you advocate for him all the way. Good luck!
  • I'm sorry Shanado.  I've pretty much been a sh!tshow for a while now so I can certainly commiserate.  I've been told things will get better.  I told them, I'll be the judge of that. Hang in there and let's start 50 more Words games. I'll get better at playing faster ;-)

  • Huge, huge ((hugs)).  Jr. High can be so intimidating...a new school, new administration, new teachers, and people who don't know you or your child yet.  What is his educational plan for this next year?  Will he be in all mainstream classrooms, a special ed environment?  The unknown can be so scary.

  • Hang in there!  Big breakdowns can come before big Breakthroughs.

For your DS, I imagine the situation is challenging and with great support (like you are seeking) it is doable and rewarding.  Regardless of the test results, you are dedicated that one way or another he develops the skills to thrive.  This is going way ahead, but I worked with a man who was functionally schizophrenic.  The government subsidized his employment and in this way he supported himself.  I was glad to work with him.

    For your DD, congratulations!!!!

For the first 6 months he will be in just two special Ed classes so he won't be changing classes like the other kids just yet. Fingers crossed. He's well aware that he's doing something different from the rest of the kids:(

  • Your kids look to you for reassurance and confidence. If you stay strong, so will they. No worries-- your son will be JUST fine. :)

And as far as your daughter goes...I cried like a baby on her 1st birthday. Can't help you there!
