Toddler Classes

This fall I'm planning enrolling our lo in some type of class last sprin, she was in swimming class. I planned to do the same thing this fall. My lo is only child and doesn't go to daycare so I think some interaction with other kids is a good idea. Does any else's do the same thing or have ideas of different classes.

Re: Toddler Classes

  • We are going to do swim classes this fall, but our rec center has music and gym classes for kids too once they turn 18 months, so we'll do that in the new year since most of our LOs will be 18 months in December. Also, she can do those classes earlier at Gymboree but they are much more expensive. Em goes to daycare during the school year, but I still think it's important being that I'm a PE teacher. Oh, and they have dance classes once they turn 2. Take a look at your rec center or YMCA or even library to see what they have available.

  • Our community center offers Parent & Child classes for different age groups.  We did the baby classes last year and will be going to the 1-year-olds class this fall.  The classes consists of singing songs, playing games, and parent discussion time while the kids play together.

We'll probably also sign up for a swimming class.

  • I've been taking DD to Music Together ever since she was 3 and a half months old. It's great!! They have it all over the U.S. We are moving next month and I found another location nearby where we'll be moving to. I'm not sure if all the programs run it the same way, but her current program is a mixed-aged class, from newborn up to 5 years of age.

I am also interested in doing a second class once we get settled, whether it be swim lessons or something else offered at a community center.

  • My child does go to daycare so interaction with others isn't an issue for us. However, i am wanting to sign her up for a gymnastics-type class the next session at the y.

  • DD and I have been doing a Mommy and Me class at a parenting center since she was 4 months old. We just finished her last infant group session and all the kids are graduating to the toddler class together starting in the fall. We also have done swim classes which are fun.

Today we tried out a Music and Sign language class which was neat and we may do that in the fall as well.

Once she is 18 months I will be signing her up for a mommy and me baby dance class and at 2 years old we will be starting mommy and me ice skating.

We also do activities with my meetup group all the time.

I am so excited to try different activities with her!

  • If you can get involved in a playgroup, that is great for socialization, for you and for her. We do one once a week and it's been great. I found my group through the hospital, but you can look on meetup.com for your area.

We are doing swimming also this Fall. I also got a groupon for Gymboree classes, so we'll be trying that for a month to see how he likes it. A lot of those baby gyms do a free trial class, so you can test it out before dropping a bunch of money on it.

  • We have been going to Mama-Baby Piilates (she plays; I exercise) since she was six weeks old. She's one of the older kids in the class now (it goes up to 18 months), but I plan on continuing through the fall. We are also very involved in a playgroup, so we do 1-2 playgroup activities a week.

  • DD LOVES Gymboree! We did swim classes (stopped for the summer), but will start again in the fall. Our local dance studio starts a Mommy and Me at 18 months.

  • We've done swimming, a music class at the library, and a tots gymnastics class.  He loves all of them and I've met some great moms from he classes.  It gets us out of the house and him interacting with other kids, who he now recognizes and smiles when he sees them.  I think as an only child, these classes are a great option.
  • My LO is also an only child who doesn't go to daycare, so I feel the same way about her needing some social interaction with kids her age. But money is tight so I have found some free ways to do that. DD has 3 little friends around her age, so I make a point to make play dates with them. Also, the library near us has a story time where about 15 kids go and listen to stories and then play, DD has so much fun.

  • I need to look in to what's available around here, but I haven't heard of too much.  I think SIL and I are taking the LOs to Little Gym this fall though (it's like Gymboree - not sure if it's local or national.)  We only have 1 Gymboree activity center in town and it's not far, but it's not close to me!
