Going slow on solids - anyone else?

I feel like we're behind the curve on solids.  DD is one of the younger ones on the board, born at the end of Dec., but even so, she hasn't had a wide variety of solids yet.  Not on purpose, but since we've been traveling, it just hasn't been a priority.

Once a day, she gets sweet potato, bananas, avocado (which she doesn't eat much of), or applesauce, or a combo of those.  I feel like I need to be more aggressive on the solids front; she is otherwise EBF, and with that, she is a chunky monkey!  But seeing the post about eggs makes me think I better step it up...

Re: Going slow on solids - anyone else?

  • We're still at once a day.  We have just gotten DS's schedule pretty much figured out since he started daycare, so it's easier for us to follow a routine.  I'm thinking about adding a second feeding but right now I'm concentrating on getting ready for work (I'm a teacher) and then we might try.

Another thing I'm waiting for is to hit 9 months, because that's when our old-fashioned pedi says he can start finger foods.  After he can have finger foods, he'll be eating a lot more.

  • We weren't in a huge rush either but once LO hit the 8 month mark he got a lot hungrier.  He's now having solid breakfast, lunch, and dinner but only about two tablespoons at a time.  Otherwise he's EBF.  I'm not excited by the solid foods milestones and I'm not in a hurry for him to be eating!

  • Ok, good, so glad to know I'm not the only one!  We've offered her mum-mum's a couple of times, but she just makes a sour face and bangs them on the table. :/

  • We're doing BLW, so we're letting DS set the pace of what he wants to eat.  He's interested, but doesn't eat a whole lot.  He's thriving and I subscribe to the "anything under one is for fun" theory because it just makes sense to me... that being said, yep, he's "tasted" a lot of things, but we're just going slow.  :)
  • DD is a late December baby and was a month early. We are going slow as well. Just started stage 2 foods and she eats 1-2 times daily. She is otherwise EBF. Our pedi said that food before age 1 is just for fun.

  • We're going slowly, too.  DS just gets one "meal" of solids right now.  I give him 3 frozen cubes of food (about 4-6 Tbsp total) as DH and I eat dinner.  I'll probably add breakfast sometime in the next week or so...

  • we are slow but really just b/c in the beginning, i didn't have time to intro her to new things every 3 days b/c i was making the food & i was very busy so i got a little bit lazy with it. we are still introducing some fruits/veggies but after that i have already made a chicken, sweet potato, & applesauce puree that i hope she likes.

tried to give her puffs & she gagged so those we will be waiting on. will try to start finger foods at the end of this month

  • I am taking it slow. I wanted to EBF for a full year but decided to start iron-fortified cereals because of a family history of anemia. He eats cereal for "dinner."

He has a pretty good pincher grip already, and eats pretty thick cereal, so I am not concerned that he will be behind at all.

  • I try to offer her something at least twice a day (purees or finger foods), but she's just really not that interested. Yesterday she ate 2 bites of applesauce and wouldn't take anymore, then ate 2oz of sweet potato and a handful of puffs that afternoon. I feel like she's happier on the days she eats more solids. The past few days she's had up to 11oz bottles before she would be full!

  • I give him solids maybe 3 times a week. He would eat more but it's easier to nurse him on busy days.

  • We are doing blw, dd doesn't have much of an interest in foods yet...
