December 2011 Moms

I'm done wasting money on baby toys...

From now on I should just shop at Petsmart for DD since all she wants to play with are dog toys. Thank goodness Max likes to share, but when she grabs his favourite toy he runs over to me, sits and kind of cocks his head to say, "mom...look what E is doing" I then have to pry the toy out of her chubby fingers and give it back to Max who then runs out of the room with toy in his mouth to hide it from her...

What unconventional toys does your LO love?

  • they aren't toys but basically anything she shouldn't have- my laptop cord, my laptop keys, papers, the remote, my phone, the jar of triplepaste or lotion when i try to change her.

she can have toys right in front of her & will drop them to go for these items. has also thrown a few tantrums when i take these away from her

Lol :) I should have put quotes around "toys"

  • Kitchen utensils! Plastic spoons, metal pots and pans, plastic bowls. She loves them all!

  • My freaking cell phone!  He loves it!  Not even looking at it. He loves to gnaw on it! I DL some fisher price baby apps in case I'm ever in dire need but I'm not planning on showing them to him now because he'll love it even more!

At least Max is "cool" with sharing his toys.

  • DD loves water bottles, but they have to be empty or at least half. They crush better and she loves the sound. She loves playing with my phone and my FI's, or rather she likes chewing on it. She also likes the x-box controller, which after we turn it off, she always turns it back on. We have no idea how quickly and easily she does it either.

  • Diapers, the wipes container, empty water bottle, and her humidifier.

  • DS loves water bottles, he loves to chew on the top and bottom of them. He also loves our phones, remote controls, any cords, the laptop, kitchen utensils, the vacuum, eye glasses, and hair.

  • The remote ( but not the extra one we gave to him of course), our cell phones, laptop, diapers, loves pulling the wipes out of the container, the dog dishes, and pretty much anything else that we say no to!

  • DS loves empty water bottles and bags of chips.  We went to the park last week, and I laid out all of his toys on our blanket, but all he wanted was my bottle and bag of pretzels lol.

  • Let's see...he loves the remotes, laptops, laptop cords, any important piece of paper on the coffee table (yet he turns away from the scrap paper I give him), anything with glowing numbers (cable box, DVR...), anything with buttons, tags (but he doesn't like his Taggie football), the calculator, and the free toothbrush I got from the dentist last week.

He's napping right now.  I think I'm going to get out some pots and pans and wooden spoons for him to play with when he wakes up :)

  • DVDs.  We have a really low media cabinet with open shelves.  Everyday she takes at least 10 videos out.  She likes to chew on them.
  • Another dog toy lover here! LO and the dog would be happy if I just let them trade. She will crawl over a floor full of her toys to get to a dog toy. Then she rolls over and waves it in the air like it's the best thing she's ever found. I've caught her chewing a rawhide a couple of times now.

  • Drinking straws are DS' toy of choice. He tries to steal them out of my drink and will play with them forever. He likes straw wrappers too, but he just wants to eat that.

He also really, really wants my Nook, cell phone, and laptop. Love of technology starts young.

  • The vacuum cleaner, particularly if it's running. He'll scramble across the floor as fast as he can to try and hold on to this giant loud vibrating object. He also loves cords, the phone, the remote, the wipes container, the gold offering plate at church. Cups of liquid - I made the mistake of teaching him to drink out of a regular glass, now if he's sitting on someones lap and they try and take a drink he just wants to grab it and drink it himself.
  • I was visiting my mom and LO was a bit cranky working on yet-to-be-seen teeth.  I was busy packing up our things so to distract him, my mom gave LO (secured in a booster seat) a silicone basting brush to chomp on.  Little guy seriously loved it!  I just had to watch so he didn't try to jam the handle in his mouth and gag himself.

  • Red solo cups are his non-toy toy of choice at the moment. DS loves them!  I will rue the day he discovers where the dog toys are kept...

  • T loves to nibble on my phone and he's been playing with a few pieces if Tupperware this week.  He hasn't found the stash of cat toys yet but the food/water dishes are great fun
  • Wet washcloth (after I wipe his face and hands he will usually sit for another 10-15 minutes in his highchair playing with it).
