Questions about the Flu vaccine and Chicken Pox Vaccine

Hello Moms,

My LO's 1 year doctor's appointment is coming up and his Ped recommended the flu vaccine. Has anyone LO got one or plans on getting one? Also has anyone's LO had the Chicken Pox vaccine or is it for older children? Thanks Moms

Re: Questions about the Flu vaccine and Chicken Pox Vaccine

  • DD1 had both. The flu vaccine is two doses the very first time they get it, I think about a month apart. She had no adverse effects from either vaccine and we will be getting both for DD2 as well. I'm a SAHM, but my husband is a teacher and is exposed to heaven knows what at school, so we all get the flu vax.

  • I did both for DS1 and I plan on doing both again for DS2.  We are pretty much pro-vaccine in our family and we will all be getting the flu shot.

We will be getting the varicella (chicken pox) vaccine. I am undecided about the flu vaccine, but will probably end up getting one since she is in daycare part time. She didn't get one last year, but that was because she wasn't eligible until the end of flu season.

What do you mean by the bolded?

I assume she meant "older" children, not "other."  I understand the recommendation is to get the chicken pox vaccine at a year.  I will probably do that one.  Not sure about the flu vax yet.

  • Since I do not skip my flu vaccine neither will LO until she has a say about it. I think chicken pox is now required for Kindergarten (?)
  • Sorry Moms..I meant older..thanks for letting me know..I changed it

  • I'll do chicken pox whenever the pedi recommends it, and I plan to get DS his flu vaccine each year. I get mine every year, and I got one while I was pregnant with him, so technically he's already had one. No reason not to continue.

  • DD1 got chicken pox vaccine and so will DD2. As for the flu vaccine, I've never had one and niether will my kids. I may change my mind when they go to school but right now they aren't in day care so I don't wory to much about it.

  • We do flu shots every year.  We are on a delayed vaccine schedule so we'll probably do the chicken pox vaccine around age 4

  • DD got her first flu vax at 6 months old. Hubby and I both work retail, so we get all vax recommended to us. Better safe than sorry.
