Sizing for a post-delivery belly binder?

I've been looking for a post-delivery binder to help with abdominal / back support.  It never even occurred to me the first time around and I know I'm going to need the extra support this time, so I want to be prepared.

Did anyone use one that you'd recommend?  When did you buy it and how did you determine what size to get?  I was on amazon reading reviews of different ones and there are so many conflicting reports of sizing information being wrong or right.  I'm 5'11" and was a size 12/14 pre-preg, but some of the belts I'm looking at would have me order a small, which is just weird.  Medium, maybe, but not small.  I don't want to waste time and money and I'm not sure that I'll be able to return it if it's the wrong size.  I'm looking to spend no more than $25.  Any recs?

Re: Sizing for a post-delivery belly binder?

  • This may not be the information you're looking for at all but for what it's worth the hospital I am going to deliver at (which I also work at, so I know this is legit) gives their patients AWESOME belly binders post delivery (that you get to keep) but you have to actually ask for it to get it. It might be worth asking if they could supply you with one. That way you will be sure to get the right size. Granted, if your hospital doesn't do that, I'm useless!

  • Ditto. The hospital gave me mine. Not fancy but does the job. One tip, put it on over your nursing tank - its a little itchy.

  • My hospital also gave me a binder but I did not know that ahead of time and got one called wink of diapers.com.I followed the online guidlines and the size works.I am using it now 2.5 weeks after my c-section.
  • My hospital also gave me a binder.  Worth asking!

  • I asked my OB and she told me that she'd order me one.  I got two the day I delivered - one was so enormous that I had to wrap it around a few times and then it wasn't snug, and the other one was too small.  They also weren't comfortable (though that could have been because of the sizing issues).  Because I hated them I'm really glad they were free and I didn't spend money on them.  Definitely ask your OB.
