4 1/2 yr old poop issues

My DD has had poop issues since my son was born.  He is 18 months now and she still will go for awhile with no accidents and then have them again.  She is having poop accidents again where she will poop a little in her panties and then she will go on potty or she will have a complete mess. She sometimes has a lil pee in her panties and will need to change them or have a complete accident.  I have tried to be calm and say its ok, try better next time.  Then there have been times where I have gotten upset with her and yelled b/c she knows what she is doing.  I don't know what to do.  The doc said to fill out a behavioral form and talk about it with them and see if its neurological which they don't think it is. I know kids have accidents, but none of my friend's kids have accidents like she does. It's very upsetting b/c I don't want her to have this many accidents at preschool.  She has had one before where I had to go and clean her up. I don't know what to do, does anyone have any suggestions, help, going through similar situation?

Re: 4 1/2 yr old poop issues

  • My daughter has done this a couple of times, but not enough to have really concerned me.  I chalked it up to her being too busy with her little sister or just afraid of missing out on something so she waits until its too late.  By being more vigilant and staying  on top of it by actually telling her to go to the bathroom, I feel that we nipped it in the bud.  Do you have regular set times for her to go to the bathroom, or do you just depend on her to go when she needs too?  I remind or check with DD to make sure she goes first thing when she wakes up, before we go out the door for anything, before lunch and to try again before nap, after nap and before bed.  You may not be noticing cues that you would have previously due to your son being busy, as I am sure he is.
