My son (2.5 years old) is pretty mobile and hasn't been worn in a while, but I was thinking about putting him in a back carrier or even using my ring sling to carry him on my back when taking a walk or going to places where he can't really walk freely on his own. Is this really doable while pregnant? I'm 16 weeks today and already showing a bit.
We have a Moby style wrap and an adjustable ring sling. I'm looking at a new carrier called Onya Outback that looks like it would work for my little man and for his new brother or sister when they come. If any of you have experience with the Onya, I would love to hear about that as well. TIA!!
Re: Question about bw a toddler while pregnant
I just had DS2 about 2 weeks ago and I wore him everyday up to the day I had the baby. DS1 is 3yo.
If your going to spend that amount of $ on a a carrier I suggest looking into the Boba, or a KinderPack.
What did you carry your son in while pregnant? If I can find a way to make what I have now work, I'll probably do it.
Very doable. I asked a similar question the other week.
Last week I toted DS (32 lbs) around London on my back in an Ergo carrier. I was 16 weeks pregnant at the time.
Not going to lie: it was a workout. But it made the trip so much easier. We were able to see more without having to lug a stroller around or go home because DS's legs were burned out.
I wore Callum up until I delivered. As far as what will be comfortable for you...it's really personal preference but I found it more comfortable to have something I could tie above my belly (vs. a buckle carrier that would need to buckle below). I used wraps and mei tais while pregnant. I have a long torso though so that may make a difference; I know some prefer to wear the carrier under the belly.
I do think a back carry is more comfortable (although a hip carry is doable until you get really big - just not as comfy to me). The Onya is a fine carrier - I don't find it as comfy as some other options but some love it. Buckles vary quite a bit in terms of fit so it's nice to try before you buy if you can. I will say that in general there isn't a buckle carrier that will fit both a toddler and a newborn well (although you have your moby and RS for the new little one).

I tried a back hold in the ring sling with him today and it was kind of uncomfortable. I'm bidding on an Oh Snap (BabyHawk) carrier right now. Hopefully that will work for him. He was so excited to be in a sling again!!
I will probably save my ring sling and Moby-style wrap for baby #2.
