Group B Strep and Placenta Encapsulation

I was just told that I tested positive for GBS and I have opted in favor of the IV antibiotic as opposed to a homeopathic remedy. I was planning on encapsulating my placenta and I was wondering if the antibiotic would have any affect on my placenta and the quality of it. Thanks!

Re: Group B Strep and Placenta Encapsulation

  • Wow, that's a really good question. I'm curious to hear responses from ladies in the know. I was GBS positive last time (didn't encapsulate) and I'm starting my regimen of vitamin C and probiotics in hopes that I wont be this time. Ugh.

  • I will be following this post!  I was GBS+ last time and am hoping not to be this time.  I am encapsulating this time.

  • I was GBS+  this time around, got my 2 rounds of antibiotics, and encapsulated my placenta. Nothing was said to me by my MWs or encapsulist (is that a word..?) about it affecting the quality of my placenta.

Thank you so much! This helped a lot.

  • I'm so glad you posted this! Im 39 weeks and gbs+ and also planning on encapsulating....this hadn't crossed my mind but now ill certainly be running it by my doula
  • I was GBS+ with my last, and ecapsulated.  I had planned to get the antibiotics, but got to the hospital too late for them...but with planning ultimately to both get the antibiotics and encapsulate, I never read anything, or was told anything my anyone that one would affect the other.

  • For what it's worth, I am GBS negative but I didn't know that yet when we met with our doula and backup doula. The backup doula will be doing the encapsulation and when my then upcoming GBS swab was mentioned, nothing was brought up about antibiotics affecting anything.

  • Please enlighten me on this placenta encapsulation that you're talking about. What is it? Last pregnancy, I was GBS+ and got the IV antibiotics. I wondered what would happen if I had gotten to the hospital too late to receive them. I am just curious because I hear that if you're GBS+ the first time around, that it is likely that you will be GBS+ during subsequent pregnancies. TIA for this info

Placenta encapsulation is basically the process of dehydrating your placenta and having it encapsulated. There are different ways to prepare the pills like by adding herbs with the placenta and so on. There are numerous benefits of doing so but the main reason is to help fight off "baby blues". I am scared to death of PPD so I am trying anything to avoid it. Sounds kind of gross, but most women swear by it so I don't see why not to do it.
