I have never been good with weight loss/exercise/eating good. When I was younger I could eat what I want and never gain weight. That is obviously not the case now. I am 5'6" and 208 pounds. I am now more ready than ever to get healthy. My girl is going to be 2 and is so active and I want to be able to run and play with her and be around to watch her grow up. I also hate clothes shopping and just being uncomfortable.
I have started at the YMCA and I have a work out buddy in my mom and sister. I just get bored with treadmill, elliptical etc. I have no stamina to run either. I did check out Zumba yesterday and fell in love so I know I will be doing that. I am checking out turbo kick tonight. I think classes will be the way to keep my interest up in going to the gym. I thought about maybe also doing something else just not sure what yet.
I do need help in the food department. I just love food. I am getting better with the sweets, but I need to learn portion control and how to make good choices on foods so I am not starving all the time. It doesn't help I work a full time desk job.
I know I have to start slow, but I get discouraged easy. Hoping this board and making a ticker will keep me motivated along with my work out buddies.
Re: Intro
Sounds like a great start, especially the exercise classes! Keep it up!
As far as food goes, check out sparkpeople.com. You enter your height, weight and your goal and it calculates how many calories you should be eating. You can also use it to track exercise and how many calories you burn.
Good for you for deciding to make a change! That is a big step!
Good job starting! I recommend spin classes, too as well as swimming. I hate running and I'm training for a triathlon because I've found I love biking and swimming.
I really like the myfitnesspal app- it's really helpful. Very similar to sparkpeople. I also sit at a desk all day and there are way to eat and keep it healthy. I do a breakfast smoothie on the way to work, some hummus with veggies around 10:30, lunch at noon, a piece of fruit at 2:30, and dinner when I get home. Another piece of fruit before I leave work if I'm hungry. Eating more small meal helps to keep your metabolism going throughout the day.

You are on the right track just by wanting to be healthy! Group exercise classes are wonderful because 1-they're fun and 2- you're held accountable for an hour long work out, plus you may make new friends who will help encourage you to get to class.
As far as eating, try upping your protein so you're not starving. I know its easy to eat when bored, and a desk job doesn't help. If you're truly not hungry, try getting uo and walking for 5 minutes or drink water...do something to get your mind off of eating and you'll probably forget about it. If you really are hungry, keep healthy snacks within reach (veggies, fruit, almonds). Good luck!!!
