My son is scheduled next week for tear duct surgery. He's had multiple round of antibiotics and seen a pediatric eye specialist. The surgery itself I'm not concerned about. It's the anesthesia that worries me. I've read some recent research that anesthesia before two has potential for learning disabilities later on. I am definitely a first time mom. Has anyone else had this surgery? And how did it go for you? Or has anyone else had another child who had this that just "grew out of it"? Thanks!

Re: Blocked tear duct surgery?
My girls have both been under anesthesia for ear tubes, at 14 months for DD1 and 10 months for DD2. I had heard the same thing about anesthesia before the age of two, so I checked into it and asked the ENT some questions. PP is right, the study showed a correlation between two exposures and possible learning disabilities. But I believe it was just a correlation, not causation, so they can't say it will cause problems. Our ENT was not at all concerned by the study (and her son has had 4 sets of tubes, so lots of anesthesia!).
ETA: DD2 did have a blocked duct. It cleared up for good around 8ish months, but the pedi said if it hadn't cleared up by a year we'd consult with a specialist about possible surgery. Our friends LO also had it, and his cleared up a week before his scheduled surgery.
