So I got my period yesterday so now its another month of trying again. I REALLY feel like this isnt going to happen easily and I dont know how far I will got to make it happen. But what I wanted to ask is my cycles have been off for about the last 5 months is there any tests the doc can do to tell why or anything you can be put on to regulate them? The problem right now is my insurance doesnt cover any fertility testing so dont know what I can do. Any advice would be appreciated
Re: got my period :-(
So if you're not temping, what information are you actually charting? The temping is what can tell you if your luteal phase (LP) is long enough (> 10 days), if you're actually ovulating, and give your doctor a hint/idea of hormonal irregularities. It's not exactly the length of the overall cycle that matters as much as the duration of the various phases of each cycle and what is happening in them.
How do you know when your fertile window is in your cycle? Do you use OPKs? Track CM? What do you mean when you say your cycles have been "off"-- are they longer? shorter? have your periods been different? what?
Doctors can test your hormones at various points in your cycle to see if they're doing what they need to do; they can also do ultrasounds to check mature egg development just prior to ovulation; they can do an HSG to see if your tubes are clear... there are TONS of tests that they can do. Also some on your partner to make sure he's shooting a loaded weapon (so to speak).
No offense intended, but 5 months is not really all that long if you're not sure of your fertile window/O day...

Sorry to hear that the old hag rained on your parade.
If your cycles aren't regular, it's most likely due to changes in when you're ovulating, but you can't be sure without some data. There are definitely things the docs can do to help, but I'd advise taking some data on your own as well. BBT charting and OPK's can help pinpoint when you're ovulating, and that would be very good information for your doctor (and yourself) when determining what your next steps should be. Good luck!
