S/O Babyproofing...dogs?

Is anyone doing anything special to keep their dog separated from their LO as LO begins to crawl/stand/cruise? I'm nervous about our dog accdentally knocking down DD so I think that I want to keep them separated, but I'm not sure if that is reasonable. My house is a ranch with a really open floor plan, so there are no doorways (other than bedrooms/bathrooms) that are narrow enough to gate with a baby gate.

Oh jeez - I hadnt even thought of that! My main concern was making sure that Z doesnt try and eat the dog's dog food and hair that is constantly around regardless of how many times I vacuum.

We will just keep a watchful eye. The dog is a good big brother and even though is a 100lbs (not as big as Duke though!) is very gentle with Z (even though Z doesnt understand that grab =/= pet). I think if we tried to keep him away it would freak him out.

We are lucky enough to have some doorways so it will be easy to put up a gate. We will try to do a combo of things. While we are in the room with DD we will let the dog be around. We have been teaching him gentle since I was pregnant and he's doing awesome. He'll come over to give her kisses but he's so gentle and careful. That said, it's of course different once the baby is more mobile, can grab on to the dog etc so it will require a lot more supervision.

In any case we'll try to have the dog around while we are in the room, but should I need to, you know step out to the bathroom or whatever, we will do two things: baby jail as well as gates to keep the dog out of the room completely.

I have major anxiety over the dog food. We free feed Duke, so his bowl is always out in the kitchen and I am worried that it is a choking hazzard. We could potentially go to feeding him at specific times, but that seems mean to do to a dog who has always been free fed. Ugh.

Yeah I wouldn't try changing too much stuff especially when it comes to basics such as feeding your dog. You should leave that to how it's always been and just try to keep the babe out of that area if you can...

Our dog is such a baby, he'll probably run for the hills when she starts walking. She's scooting/belly-crawling pretty good now, and he already looks a little freaked out. It's more like protecting the dog from her, keeping her away from his toys, his bed, his ears! She dives for his ears every time he's in arm's reach.

In short, I have no suggestions.

we have a 200lb great dane that would certainly knock DS down. for now, I just block the doorways with chairs. DS is not mobile enough yet and the dog has not figured out that he could just plow through them

We put ours down, she was showing too much aggression towards the baby. After 3 breast cancer surgeries, two strokes, then the behavior...it was time. She was up in the years too...I felt really bad about it but now I don't have to worry about having the baby on the floor and getting attacked.

We have very wide openings between rooms, but did manage to find gates wide enough to block off one room. When DS was small we would keep him gated in and the dog out, but we're not really worried about it with DD. The dog knows now that she has to be careful, and it's hard to gate a room with a toddler running about!

We have a raised ranch and I'm worried about the fireplace, stairs and everything else so for the time being I am planning on using one of those baby play yards (like a corral). I already bought these great foam play mats that ds crawls around on and I plan to use those inside the play yard. I'm not worried about the dogs at all getting aggressive with ds but I am worried about them jumping or trampling them. One is 40 lbs and the other is almost 60 lbs and god forbid a squirrel comes into the yard or the neighbor gets their mail they run around the house like lunatics like we're under attack. I don't want ds to get hurt or into anything he shouldn't.

Family members seem more worried about the dog's interaction with DS than we are. However, all time is supervised time and we are no more than a couple of feet away at max.
