TTC After a Loss

How Long To Wait...

I miscarried a little over a week ago. It was around a 2 week process..I started spotting on the Sunday and then miscarried the following Saturday. I continued to bleed(like a heavy period that dwindled down to spotting) and a little over a week later am finally feeling back to 'normal'. My bleeding has stopped, I no longer have symptoms and am doing okay emotionally. I've read so many articles about how long to wait before trying to conceive again but they all say different things. I want to try again soon, but I need advice. How long did you wait before Ttc again? Any suggestions?

Re: How Long To Wait...

  • Everyone is told something different. You really have to listen to your doctor on this one. While some people were told they could try right away, some were told 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, etc. You will get varying answers from us on here. Please ask your doctor and follow their advice.

To answer your question, I was told 3 months after each loss.

  • I am sorry for your loss. Did your doctor give you a timeframe of when you can start TTC again? If not, I would call and ask. Most women here will tell you to follow your doctor's advice.

FWIW, my doctor told me that I did not need to wait for my first AF after my m/c before we started trying again, but DH and I decided to wait one cycle. As it turns out, I didn't O before my first AF, so it was a moot point.

This. We are waiting 1 cycle, which is what my Dr. recommended.

This. What does your doctor say? You really need to follow your doctor's advice.

After my 1st m/c, I was told to wait a month. After my 2nd, I didn't have to wait at all and after my 3rd I was told to wait for 3 months. After my 4th m/c, I had to wait for AF for like forever and then I had to wait until all my RE testing was complete which was about 4 months.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies. My doctor told me to wait one cycle. I will definitely listen to her but still wanted to ask and see what you all did!

  • Your doctor should be the final say in this, but to answer your question...

We waited two cycles after my D&C, which my OB said wait 1-2 cycles. With my second loss, which was earlier and natural, she told me 1 cycle was fine. We actually didn't try to prevent pregnancy between the miscarriage and my first period, but we didn't get pregnant.

I personally would always wait at least 1 cycle.

  • Agree with everyone else that it depends on what your doc says. My doctor told me to wait two weeks after my D&C so I would be healed and then we could start trying.
