TTC after 35

Anyone with bad seasonal allergies here?

I'm thinking of calling my RE to ask about my nasal spray that I use for my hayfever allergy-- it contains steroids. I looked it up in the drug guides and there are no adverse effects in a number of studies on pregnant women, but there are no studies on women TTC.

Anyone else have the same situation and been told helpful info by their docs?

Re: Anyone with bad seasonal allergies here?

  • I have bad sinus allegies.  My PCP knows we're TTC and is careful about what he prescribes.  He has me on Flonase and Claritin, both which he feels are safe.  I also find sinus rinses helpful.

  • I'm on Nasonex and Claritan. I had never really thought about drugs that could have an affect on TTC.

  • I have bad allergies - I cough from my allergies & the last two weeks have been brutal.  I use Mucinex (the blue pill - I believe it is expectorant) which also is know to help your CM (so good for TTC) and I also use Singular which is a luketrion (sp?) which is safe for TTC.

  • The only thing that ever works without knocking me out cold is the Flonase (Fluticasone) spray, so thanks, Abeille, for sharing! My worry is that the corticosteroids might mess with the adrenal glands and cause issues with the ovaries. Like with women who naturally have adrenal gland issues that affect their blood sugar and therefore their ovaries...

I may still double-check with my RE, though. I don't want to mess with the conception issue, but I'm not going to last much longer without my Flonase-- I'm already getting the congestion, puffy/itchy eyes, fatigue, inability to sleep through the night, etc, and I'm pretty sure none of those are helpful in trying to relax so my body can get pregnant. It's about which is least helpful to the TTC cause, at this point, I think: possible side effects of the drug or the allergy symptoms!

  • I used to have really bad seasonal allergies, taking the steroid nasal spray and Allegra every day but since I gave up dairy they are all gone! Dairy causes mucus build up in your system which makes you less able to handle the irritations of seasonal allergies... or something like that. All I know is it worked for me! Now I drink Silk Almond milk, only 30 calories a cup and 50% more calcium than milk.

  • I have to use my Neti pot a few times a week when my allergies get bad. I found this website that has great info on seasonal allergy relief.

    I hope this helps!
