  • Why not name her Delilah and then use the nickname Lilah?

I agree with this. If you're really having a hard time choosing this keeps your options open.

  • In the Bible Delilah betrayed the man she loved and an entire nation, so for me it's a negative name. I do like Lilah though.

  • I think if you think you'd end up calling her Lilah anyway, just use Lilah. And in answer to the question I like Lilah a lot more than Delilah...I think Lilah sounds prettier on it's own and looks nicer too!

ETA: I forgot to say, my FI absolutely loves the name Keira too but I knew a nasty little girl with the name a while ago and I just can't get over thinking of it as a negative name.

  • I like Delilah, but I'm not very familiar with the Bible, so I don't have that association.

  • I prefer Lilah.

Keira is also a pretty name!

  • Lilah is my pick.
  • I love Delilah nn Lilah. It's high on my list.
  • I like Lilah better than Delilah even though Delilah can be shortened to Lilah as a NN. Not a fan of Keira at all - too little girly for me, sorry. I'd go with Lilah.
  • I definitely like Delilah more. I don't under stand how the reference from the bible is enough to turn people away from this name.

Charles Manson did horrific things and people still name little boys Charles. Just because one person named _____ was a bad person doesn't mean all _____ are bad people. KWIM?

Think Adolph.  Hitler ruined the name because of his campaign against the Jews.  True, Delilah is from a lot farther back in history than Hitler's Third Reich, but if the op lives, like, in the Bible Belt it could be looked down on for the association with the Biblical Delilah.

My vote would be Lilah.  It was actually pretty high on my list before I found out I was having a boy.

  • I love Delilah, but I think Lilah on its own is way too cutesy and don't see the appeal.

ETA: I live in the Bible Belt and have been in church since I was two weeks old, and I still prefer Delilah.  I think it's darling, and I associate the name with the song "Hey There, Delilah."

Yep. They are both beautiful names but I could never use Delilah because it has such negative associations. It would be different if it were a more common name but that's really THE big association the name has. I would definitely name her Lilah. Keira's really pretty too though.

Yeah, I think the big difference is how common the name is. There are tons of people named Charles, some good, some bad. People won't hear the name and automatically think "Manson." (And yes, not *everyone* will think of the biblical Delilah but it's not really an obscure reference either; to me it's well-known enough that I think it's worth thinking twice about using the name.)
