Birth center vs hospital

Are any of you planning to do the birth center/midwife thing instead of the standard hospital/ob gyn?  If so, where are you looking at?  I've heard really good things about the birthing center at UCSD, and I love that it's attached to a hospital just in case.  Any other recommendations?  Or midwife recommendations in the area?

Re: Birth center vs hospital

  • I used the midwives at UCSD for both my pregnancies, and delivered (with a midwife) in Labor & Delivery at UCSD (my 1st delivery/baby the birth center was full, which is really rare, and the 2nd delivery/baby I opted for L&D because I decided I wanted an epidural). Both were delivered by a midwife and were great experiences. :)

  • My prenatal care so far has been with the midwives at UCSD and I'll be delivering in the birthing center.   I really like the care they have provided, they are so supportive and helpful.  Everyone has been beyond nice.

I'm doing an all natural, drug free delivery so it's really nice to have a supportive staff as opposed to the negative comments I usually get.

THIS, and I love the idea of the baby being in the room the whole time with you. I am personally seeing an OB till 28 weeks, then switching to a midwife because I am in a maternal weight management program(also at UCSD btw)
