Newborn warm in winter

This will be my first winter newborn, born the end of December.

With DD, who was born in the spring, I just used a side-snap shirt, diaper, and linen swaddle, and she was fine at night. She actually outgrew the swaddle before her stub fell out, so then I moved to a shirt, diaper, and light sleep sack, and once the stub was gone, to regular PJs.

For this baby, I hesitate to spend a lot of money on something like those Halo wearable blankets that can also swaddle because I don't feel like he will need them for more than maybe 2 months -- alternatively, I was thinking of dressing him in a long-sleeve side-snap, some cotton pants (folded down away from the stub), a cap, and then a thermal swaddling blanket I saw at BBB. Think that will be enough? Once he's out of swaddles, I do have some regular Halo sleep sacks from DD that he can use if it's still chilly at night.

WDYT?

Re: Newborn warm in winter

  • I would invest in the fleece halo sleep sacks.  My little one was both in November and all her wore for the first few months were the long sleeve side-snap shirts and the sleep sack.  He didn't like to be swaddled so we actually cut the swaddle part off of the sleep sack and just used the sack part.  Except for a few other items like a fleece snow suit for trips outside, we really didn't need any other clothes so the sleep sacks were worth it.

     I hope this helps.

  • We did fleece sleepers swaddled in a blanket and hats. The hats were key to keep our little lady warm. If the pj's didn't have feet I would put socks on her too.
