I think DD is more of a BLW candidate...

To be perfectly honest I hadn't heard much about BLW until it was mentioned here. I always assumed I'd start with typical purees and work our way up...

I've given DD oatmeal (sometime she'll eat it sometimes not), bananas (LOVES), avocado (only with banana), squash (no thanks), peas (yuck) sweet potato (Loves). But even foods she likes she's not consistant with and won't eat it every time. And I've tried different consistencies (I'd say stage 1 and 2) But when I gave her a little fish on two occasions (tiny chunks) she was all over it! I also gave her a little bit of a pickle and she was nuts about it.

It just seems like she's way more into foods we eat than the purees. And it seems like she'd rather eat it out of my hand and/or try to reach for it than eat with the spoon. So, I will ask my doc about it and read up on it some more but was just wondering if you, who have experience with BLW, would agree with me and say BLW might be a better option/approach in my DDs case?

TIA!

  • We've just started, but I would say my DD is similar - she wants what we have, and she wants to do things for herself, even to the point that she doesn't want you to put her pacifier in her mouth - she'll take it and do it herself, thankyouverymuch. I feel like she's doing well with feeding herself, and when we have tried some purees she still wants to take the spoon and feed herself (and/or fling it all over the place).

  • pretty much everything you said is my daughter exactly. LOL. i kinda do a little of both. give her something to eat, but i also still give her the purees... it seems easier to know how much she's getting, to me at least. but the pedi told me to give her the same food for 8 days in a row if she is showing disinterest... so i have been doing that and it seems like she's coming around to everything a little more now!

  • We love BLW and just give her whatever we are having in some fashion.  I always make sure she has 2-3 different things.  Tonight she got a scoop of brown rice, broccoli, and edamame.  Breakfast was cherries and scrambled eggs with chives.  At lunch I let her suck on a chunk of honeydew melon.  It is so much easier than trying to spoon some slop into her mouth while I try to eat my own food.  Plus, she total watches what we are doing and tries to mimic it, it's hilarious!
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

What kind of chicken, and how did you cut it up?

IT was kind of like rotissery style. I just gave her tiny pieces of white meat. I would take a little, maybe 1/4" piece and just mash it up with my fingers a bit so it was very easy for her to eat it.
