Food Allergy

Just a small vent

How is it possible that we went on vacation for 7 days and everything was perfect. No reaction. No issues. Just a little itchy the first night and that is it.  We even found a safe vegan restaurant for him where he can have dessert (whoo hoo)...

BUT we come back and go to my SIL house for a party and he's a mess?  Tummy issues, skin rash, itchy like crazy (He was even itching his neck which freaked me out most).

My SIL gave other kids cheese chips and they were eating them on the floor and playing with toys so we had to take my son to a different location and had him play by himself.  Not cool.   How is it that all of our friends are more careful with my son than my own family! it's so frusturating.

this was my small little rant. hope everyone is having a nice summer

Re: Just a small vent

  • That just made me really sad to hear that your son had to go to an area and play by himself.  What a bummer!

Hope he is doing better now!  Hopefully your SIL saw that your son was alienated and will think a little more cautiously about things in the future.

  • what a big bummer!

My vent today is that I got my insurance to approve Neocate only to find out that they will only cover $8 per can so we still pay $36 per can at a retail store.  Guess I will go back to buying it off CL.

  • That stinks!! It seems like your family doesn't really "get it"  - didn't you guys also have a nut incident at one point? Hope your little guy is back to his old self soon!

  • Ugh, how frustrating. It's really disappointing when people, especially family, just disregard your LO's safety like that. :(

YES! my SIL needed me to go watch her boys for an hour before she gets home from work and i agreed only if she makes sure her house is "SAFE" for DS1.  As soon as i got there one of my nephews was eating a peanut butter cup thingy (it's PB between two cookies). I was livid!

We are civil together at the moment but our relationship is very rocky. We are very careful with what we say to each other b/c we went through couple of years of not talking because i said something about her son slapping someone (long story). There is a lot of family drama and me saying something would cause HUGE issues.

I don't even like going there so DH sometimes take DS1 over alone. Last time he came home 5 mins later b/c the boys were so out of control. A few months ago we had to rush DS to the ER b/c DH took him over there and came home with his face swollen and couldn't stop itching himself. We are assuming it's from touching the toys and then rubbing his face or putting his fingers in his mouth (they always eat and play). But my SIL and everyone keeps saying it was seasonal allergies.. he was never diagnosed with seasonal allergies so i don't know if he has them or not, but he plays outside ALL the time and he never has runny eyes or stuffy nose or swollen eyes.

So saying something would probably cause too many issues :

  • That sucks. I wish people were more sensitive. Til they are in your shoes, they really have NO clue just how difficult dealing with food allergies can be.
