Sleeping on my stomach!?

Ive been noticing more and more that I am sleeping more on my stomach then any other position.. Not completely on my stomach but more like a side stomach? If that makes sense.

When I move or turn over my sides are really tender and it's really uncomfortable. Body pillows don't help because I end up just pushing the thing away from me.

Question is, is it horrible to sleep on your stomach when pregnant?

Re: Sleeping on my stomach!?

  • You will know when it is time to stop sleeping on your stomach or your back, it will be very uncomfortable, at least that is my experience.  I was doing the side/stomach thing up until the last couple of nights, and now I'm starting to stay more on my sides.

  • I've been doing this too..I figure when it's not good for my body, my body will let me know

  • I just mentioned in another thread that I've been sleeping like this.

I agree with a PP that your body will let you know when you need to stop.  I kinda feel like the same goes for sleeping on your left.  Your body will let you know when you need to be 'not' sleeping on your right.

  •  I still do and did for over half of my pregnancy last time.  It just gets painful the bigger you get.

  • I was wondering the same thing because thats exactly how I sleep most of the night.  I remember my dr telling me that my body will know when its time to stop because it will be totally uncomfortable.  Im trying to trust my body, but I must admit i wake up like (GASP) when im like that Lol.

  • No, it's not horrible. At some point it will become so uncomfortable, like sleeping on a bowling ball, that you won't be able to anymore. Up until that point, it's fine. I slept on my belly until like 24 weeks with DD. With this LO, coincidentally, as of this morning, I no longer can (at 19 weeks).

  • So happy to read this post.. I am so use to sleeping on my side stomach also.. I sleep with one leg bent. I try to sleep on my side and i put pillows but its sooo uncomfortable.. I sometimes feel guilty sleeping on my stomach so i leaves me tossing and turning (its my first time)

  • The only way I'm comfortable is mostly on my belly. I was a belly sleeper prior to getting pregnant and I've modified it so I'm sort of on my side but mostly on my belly. My stomach isn't that big yet so if I just prop myself up a bit on my side, there's no pressure on my belly (yet...I'm sure my days are limited!)

I slept on my belly/side for a while with my son too, I think. It'll get uncomfortable at some point and you'll have to modify. That's when I switched to all on my side with a pillow between my legs. I didn't have a pregnancy pillow but I just used a long body pillow I got from Target and it worked just fine.

  • I'm a firm believer in if its not good for you...you will feel it! If something hurts...dont do it
