Single Strollers for Twins?

My twins are 16 months old now.

DH and I are finding that we would like to have single strollers at times instead of always being "burdened" with our bulky double strollers.  We thought we would not need the strollers as much once the kids were older and we could put the kids in shopping carts.  However, we go so many places (zoo, mall shopping, etc.) that we use our stroller (not a shopping cart) and want to split up and go our own way.

We had single SNG strollers and used them a few times with the car seats.  Got the single stroller out of necessity as 1 baby was in NICU longer than other one and using the DSNG for just 1 baby was just too hard back in the beginning.

Do other MoM's have both regular double and single strollers at home so you can divide up the older kids when it makes sense?  Didn't think we would be spending more money on strollers again.  Ugh.

We were thinking of getting umbrella type strollers to save on cost since we obviously need 2 of them.

If  you have a single stroller for your multiples, which brand / model do you have?  Do you recommend it?

My DH got a set of single umbrella strollers on clearance at Walmart for $20/each and we've used them quite a bit.  Not only have we used them when we are both out with the girls, but I've used them some when I put one in a stroller and one on my back in an Ergo.  We have these and really like them, but mainly because they were the right price.  I also like that they have a canopy and a small basket underneath.

  • I just got two umbrella strollers to use when we fly.  I got them used for around $5 each.  I wanted to spend as little as possible because the airlines are not responsible for damage they do to strolIers.  I think one is Cosco and I have no idea what the other is.  I did get the connectors from Munchkin so if we want them to be double at the airport (if one of us is rolling luggage for instance) we have the option to connect the strollers.

My only complaint is that they are really short, and at 6' tall they are uncomfortable for me to push.  I figured I'd just put up with it for the few times we plan to use them.

  • i had singles, doubles, and triples. it's always good to have options! one was a chicco umbrella that was fine, but probably overpriced. the other was made by britax. loved that one, but it was a bit bigger.

We got the links so we could attach two single strollers.  Just keep in mind that these don't work on all strollers, depends on the wheels and the bars on the stroller. We really like these, so easy to put on and remove.
