2nd Trimester

Visit to the ER yesterday.

Well yesterday was interesting!

I woke up in the morning to what i thought was heartburn, so i took my omeprazole that i normally take and laid back down. ( I was diagnosed with GERD roughly 2 years ago). Once i woke up again the pain seem to have gotten a bit more severe, i could barely walk. I tried to get into the shower (thats what i normally do and it calms the back and stomach pain) But as soon as i stepped foot in my stomach started throbbing to the point where i could not breathe at all. My stomach kept getting really really tight and loosening, so at that point i was having a panic attack, thinking i was having contractions...

Boyfriend rushed me to the hospital and well found out that i have had gallstones this WHOLE time, and not gerd. So i've been taking unnecessary medication for quite some time.

So at this point i've been put on a very low fat diet because of where the stone is. Which is causing spasms.

I will have to get my gallbladder removed, but we are trying to wait until the pregnancy is over, unless it gets that severe again!

UGH! Can i get a break?

Re: Visit to the ER yesterday.

  • Ugh, I thought I was the only freak of nature with weird luck - apparently not!  I had my gallbladder out at 23 and had no risk factors.  The pain and discomfort can be pretty intense, so I sympathize with you.  I wasn't even pregnant at the time so yours is 100x worse.  Hang in there - glad to hear the baby is ok!!

  • I'm just happy the baby is okay. That's what mattered most to me. I've never been so scared in my life, i really really thought that he was going to come out!

Just praying i don't have any more issues, because getting the surgery now would be risky for the baby.

  • My mom had that when she was preggo with my brother.  She was able to wait it out and had surgery when he was 3mos old.  And that was 25yrs ago....just imagine....it was the full cut across her stomach....with a 3.5yr old and new born.

Good luck!  I hope it doesn't act up again on you.

  • MY COWORKER HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO HER WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT.. THERE WERE TIMES SHE WOULD RUSH TO THE ER DURING PREGNANCY. SHE JUST ENDED HAVING THE SURG FEW MONTHS AFTER THE BABY WAS BORN.. BUT AS THE BABY GOT BIGGER PAIN WOULD COME AND GO MORE BCUZ HER BABY WOULD LEAN ON HER GALLBLADDER... GOOD LUCK
  • Oh man, gallstones are the worst. I had several attacks over the past year and the few that I had once I got pregnant were excruciating. I ended up in the ER at 12 weeks because of the attacks and my OB made me get my gallbladder taken out when I was 14 weeks. The surgery is risky but there are so many more risks if you have more attacks while pregnant. I was terrified but I'm so thankful I went ahead with the surgery.
