I have a 4mo with congenital
sternomastoid torticollis and a minimal size flat spot. We've been in PT
for one month and do our home exercises 6 times daily. Also starting in
home PT to go along with Childrens Hospital PT. I know it takes time to
see results and helmets are sometimes necessary for correcting. How
long before you saw results and improvement? Any LO with helmets? Any
advice or words of encouragement sure would be appreciated. Want to do
everything I can. FTM nervous.
Re: XP: Any LO who currently have or had torticollis? Please share your experience.
Baby Girl #2 is on her way!
My 4 year old had it when she was an infant. Severe torticollis and plagiocephaly. She was delayed in gross motor and wasn't rolling by 7 months. Within two PT sessions, she was rolling without issue. She didn't just have a a flat spot though--she had a very misshapen and assymetrical face. Her ears weren't even close to being aligned, one entire side of her face was lower than the other. We ended up putting her in a DOC band with Cranial Technologies and we saw vast improvement.
She was in the band from 6-9 months and did PT during that time. She still has some misalignment but no one but her dad and I notice. (although wearing glasses or headphones is a challenge for her because of her ears)
You will have great success and this phase will be over before you know it!
Thank you ladies! I don't feel so alone in all of this now. It's just so frustrating when you see LO having to go through this and you wish you could make it all just go away...but I will be vigilant! Seems like the more on top of it, the better the results.
Thank you all again for sharing and good luck to you!
Thanl you for sharing and BTW LOVE the Steelers as well. LO is a Steelers fan in the making. Found him a onesie jersey the other day. DH is pleased. Lol
