Does the amt they take in (& supply) keep going up?

This might be a very basic question but, I was wondering as babies get older do they eat the same total daily amount or does it increase?

Right now I estimate my girls eat about 32oz each in a day--about 4 oz every 3 hours. As they get older will they eat about the same amount, just less frequently and more at one time, or will the total amount increase?

I'm just sitting here pumping thinking that if babies total daily volume keeps increasing, that just makes BF in general even more amazing to think about. It seems unreal to think about the sheer volume a mom who is EBF would produce.

No, they average out to about 25oz per day. Over time, your BM gets richer in calories, so they get the correct amount of calories in a smaller amount than if your BM didn't change. My LO took 4oz, never any more.

32oz per day is on the high end. The range is 20-30oz per day, average being 25oz. You said you were estimating.... :-)

Congrats on two. I'm a twin and I love seeing moms of twins on here.

Like pp said, bf babies level off at 25-30 oz per day. Your milk will increase in calories and fat over time, though, which is pretty cool.

Thanks so much. Twins have a special place in my heart now (obviously) so it makes me all warm and fuzzy when people tell me they are a twin.

What are/were your favorite resources for information like that? I spent so much time trying to navigate a twin pregnancy that I didn't get past pregnancy information to learn about infants, and especially not about BF. (I'm trying to relactate so even though my girls are 8 weeks now, I'm still such a rookie!) It seems like I get lost on kellymom now.

I pretty much know kellymom inside out and backward after 15 months! I also like "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" and "Breastfeeding Made Simple" for books.

The search function on kellymom usually gets me what I want.
